----How can we possibly think about what occured in London when Andy is DEAD!----
Also Bush's fault -- oops, can't say that!

Believe it or not, sfexpat2000 actually said that today, blaming Andy's death on "the Bush right wing."

I know. But London was done as a diversion, to take attention away from Andy's murder.

Well it didn't work. DU dropped London as a topic the instant Andy soared with the angels.

"A bounty was offered by the Bush right for anyone who could sneak into his hospital room."
This was an actual quote from a DUmmie.
Some do blame Pres. Bush.

Yes, that's just what I was getting at in my previous post. Bush essentially killed Andy.

A few words about the discussion of the London bombing on DU…I'm not a big fan of the term "conspiracy theory," because I don't think it accurately describes what it is supposed to refer to. I guess I'm just not comfortable with the term "theory," which has a specific scientific meaning, being used to describe points of view that are more accurately described as "speculation," or sometimes "totally baseless speculation." Nonetheless, "conspiracy theory" is the generally accepted term, and that is the one I will use here.

Translation: "You freakin' barking moonbat nutbars are ruining my site! How in the world do you expect me to make time with that dishy Evan Bayh when he hears I'm from the web's premier insane asylum?"

We are required to balance the conflicting interests of (on one hand) openness and the free exchange of ideas, versus (on the other hand) the desire of members to be part of a community that holds itself to some minimal standard of acceptable discourse.

Unfortunately, DU's Acceptable Discourse Compliance Specialist has been on sabbatical since the year 2000.

For example, allow me to use an extreme hypothetical: I think it is safe to say that few of us would like Democratic Underground to become widely known as that place where people believe space aliens cause tsunamis.

Phew! Instead you're only known as that place where people believe that secret nuclear tests and/or evangelical Christians having more than one kid cause tsunamis.

We have also made it clear, over many years, that bigoted conspiracy theories have no place on Democratic Underground.

Other than all the MIHOP, LIHOP, BFEE and PNAC stuff, of course.

Furthermore, I believe we should permit members to share personal "gut feelings" about what happened in London, as long as you aren't using it as an excuse to link to conspiracy websites or to pass off baseless speculation as fact.

Average DUer's gut feeling: We should surrnder immediately.

You believe it is "wild speculation" that we no longer have fair and free elections?

Bing! Somebody at DU might be starting to grow some extra cells onto the top of that brain stem!

Blue meanies. And dang, as ugly and sour-pussed as Alan Colmes is, your tagline is really harsh. Heck, just comparing him to Hamstersfromhell would be bad, much less all liberals.

starting with a conclusion and then cherry-picking evidence to fit

Surely nobody in DUmmieland would do that! (gasp)

I hate that Skinner has put restrictions on the DUmmies. That just cuts down on our fun

Don't worry, they won't listen anyway.

You mean that Skinner chose the very weekend when Andy Stephenson died to send that forum down the Memory Hole???!!!

I've been on vacation. Did Scamdy really die?

His writing is an example a style that I once heard someone refer to as having "a distressingly high ratio of words to content." It reminds me of when seventh graders have to write a report of x words in length, but have nothing to say, so they s t r e t c h everything out. Or at least, they used to, before they could buy essays over the Internet.

I think the DUmmie meant to write "IMHO" but because MIHOP is so prevelent over there, it was a freudian slip to "IMHOP."

Skinner is the Roy of DUmmiedom.

I'm noticing a concerted effort lately by a lot of Leftist groups to try to clean up their act...for the public. Daily Kos was one and recently we read about how the MoveOn.Org folks tried to tone down their normal wackiness at a House Party they sponsored in D.C. that was covered by the Washington Post. This effort reminds me of a movie I saw recently on cable called, "The Madness of King George." What happened is that King George III went bonkers and his oldest son attempted, with the support of Parliament, to take over the reigns of power and to make sure his father was permanently institutionalized. So after a period of acting completely wacky, George III realized he needed to SEEM sane to retain power so he put on a public mask of sanity. It was a funny scene in the movie. People were thinking he was sane but it was really an act. George III was REALLY wacko but knew enough to SEEM sane for public consumption.

BTW, ultimately this act didn't work out. Eventually George III was institutionalized for good and his worthless son became Regent.

And it's been as funny as it has been pathetic.

IMHOP was used instead of IMHO on quite a few message boards back in the good old days of the early internet and BBSs.

Is he, now? Did someone find a death notice from a real newspaper?

Can someone tell me a) what day he supposedly died and b) when the memorial service was due to be held?

I might have some interesting info, depending on the answers to these questions.

"I think it is safe to say that few of us would like Democratic Underground to become widely known as that place where people believe space aliens cause tsunamis."

We "all" know that space aliens created life on Earth and instilled in us the "original sin" of bad personality traits. Traits that followed us through our past lives until we become clear. Just ask the Hollyweirdos about Scientology.

And those tsunami are caused by underwater explosions set off by evil Americans Hell bent on world domination. Although some scientists point the finger at global warming caused by evil Americans Hell bent on world domination.

Skinner's site is already a crackpot haven. It's just that it burns his britches to be called out about it on Rush Limbaugh's show or in the pages of the Wall Street Journal.

a) Thursday night 7/7 around 9:30pm Seattle time

b) A memorial service will be held at Town Hall in Seattle at 1119 Eighth Ave., on Saturday, July 16, at 2 p.m.

This is not a funeral, no viewing of the deceased is to be expected at the memorial service. Still no obituary in the Seattle papers.
