WE MUST NOT ALLOW CAFTA TO BE PASSED! BRIEFLY, HERE’S WHY…

CAFTA stands for Central American Free Trade Agreement. If this “treaty” is signed, the United States (a member of the international World Trade Organization) will be forced to revise our food and nutritional supplement laws according to international standards.

Are these “international standards” beneficial? NO!! Right now, the United States has a fairly liberal law called the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994, or DSHEA. Thanks to the DSHEA, you have available to you a plentiful array and potency of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, herbs, and other nutritional supplements.

However, if CAFTA is signed, international law will supersede the sovereign law of the United States. It is almost unbelievable that this could occur, but it’s true.

To give you an idea of what this will look like in terms of supplement access: The highest amount of Vitamin C allowed will be 200 mg. (This is not a therapeutic dose.) For higher amounts, you will need a doctor’s prescription -- and pay much more than you do now. Amino acids will not be available, nor will enzymes. You won’t be able to get chromium, either. Only those substances specifically allowed by international law will be available. Significantly, the international law bureaucrats, “guided” by the pharmaceutical industry, have “forgotten” about quite a lot of nutrients that help keep us healthy.

The international standards masquerade as “free trade” and “economic union.” But in reality, CAFTA is designed to also “manage” (a euphemism for control) what a country can manufacture, use, and sell to its own people. Part of what a CAFTA signer will “agree” to is this (from the WTO text): "To harmonize sanitary and phytosanitary measures on as wide a basis as possible, Members shall base their food safety measures on international standards, guidelines or recommendations."

But the “international standards” are not only for food. They also include vitamins and minerals!

"CAFTA was passed the Senate in a 54-to-45 vote on July 1st, 2005. It will be voted on by the House of Representatives when they reconvene on July 11th, 2005.

This is your final chance to defend your right to choose your own health protocol!

YOU HAVE ONLY ONE WEEK TO ACT. CONTACT YOUR REPRESENTATIVES. URGE THEM TO VOTE AGAINST CAFTA NOW."

The GOVERNMENT know what's best for you. You are too stupid to figure it out, you must be protected from yourself. Next the government will control the actual foods you can buy and the portions you can consume. The GOVERNMENT will take care of you.

And who are these all knowing beings who form the GOVERNMENT?

This is sickening. There go individual freedoms. People aren't even free to decide what natural supplements to consume.

...continuing...

EU governments and the European Parliament approved the directive in 2002. The EU said the rules were needed for consumer protection and to provide common rules that would allow companies to sell supplements across the EU. "This is a directive designed to open the internal market and boost growth while ensuring a high level of protection of public health," said EU Health Commissioner Markos Kyprianou.

Under the rules, only food supplement ingredients approved by the European Food Safety Authority will be authorized for sale.

So. The "products" are going to be "given" to large corporations.

"This is that thing that just about everybody here says can't happen."

Even though our FDA sent four representatives to Europe last month to agree to the Codex (German model). When un-elected bureaucrats can make sweeping agreements for the people without their knowledge then we are serfs. I have been assured though by highly knowledgeable FReepers that it can NEVER happen here.

From the newsmax article...

"The law setting up a "positive list" of food supplements approved for sale across the 25-nation EU is due to take effect Aug. 1. Food supplements excluded from the list will be prohibited.

Dljordan,

Do the mods and the owner of Free Republic understand how this site is being used to promote World Government and how any dissent or opposing views that are posted are immediately flamed, and those of us who take a stand are mocked and shouted down? I was just wondering if they were even trying to deal with this problem.

The thread I posted last week is a perfect example of how these people opperate...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1437713/posts

I know you said on that thread that you were "tired"

"Because a lot of us are tired of the constant barrage of "tin-foil-hat" remarks, the pro-globalist-free-traders, the Nafta, Cafta, FTAA crowd that assures us that unconstitutional treaties signed by second-rate bureaucrats in our names are no danger to our sovereignty and the obvious change agents who lurk on the site waiting for anyone posting negative comments about our engineered slide into slavery."

And I don't like being flamed any more than the rest of you do, but we have to keep TRYING and not allow them to shout us down.

Perhaps it is a lost cause. But as the queen of fighting for lost causes, I won't stop talking about it until I have someone in uniform at my door confiscating my vitamins.

But As I have said all along, the more troubling part of this power grab is in fact the loss of American Sovereignty.

It just sickens me.

The sad thing is that you don't have be a tin-foil hat conspiracists to believe it will happen here. All you have to know (and should be intimately familiar with by now) is that the Feds dance to the tune of the Big Corporations, and they don't come any bigger than the Pharmaceutical companies, who stand to make windfall profits when this goes through here.

"I also know the president is making all kinds of offers, carrots and sticks, for Republican members. The president has opened the taxpayers' bank," Mr. Brown said last week. "If they pass it -- and this is an absolute prediction -- it will be by three or fewer votes, it will be done in the middle of the night and they will do it by holding the roll call open by at least an hour."

"Usually, trade votes are taken up in the House before the Senate. However, because the Bush Administration still does not have the votes in the House even well over a year after CAFTA was signed on May 28th, 2004 the Administration is attempting to contrive an artificial sense of 'momentum' by having the Senate vote on it first.

At last count, over 166 Representatives had publicly stated their opposition to CAFTA, while a mere 65 had publicly stated their approval. The House Ways and Means Committee passed implementing legislation out of committee this Wednesday, setting a 15-legislative day clock ticking for the Bush Administration to make a last-ditch attempt to shore up Representatives' votes for the massively unpopular treaty. The Congress returns from a July 4th recess on July 11th, so the vote must come this July."

Very good analysis.....it should be easy for anyone with half a brain to see that CAFTA, FTAA, or the North American Union or whatever will be designed and function like the EU with an almost total loss of sovereignty. Also, it looks like they'll start with an issue like this to get the camel's nose in the tent then down the road rest assured they'll go after our legal system, Constitution, etc.
