Thanks Corporal! This article just makes my day. I needed that!
In the midst of all the screaming, this is a well-reasoned piece.
I would like to see this from someone other than Gannon.
I've always thought Wilson outed his own wife out of ego (trying to prop up his own status).. especially after learning that what he was telling the media was the polar opposite of his actual report...
Gannon (aka Guckert) is right on the money here - I would go further and say that Valarie Plame is basically responsible for outing herself. She got herself involved in a nakedly political attack on the current administration by sending her loud-mouthed, dim-witted husband on the Niger trip.
I've been saying this for a while now. I first learned of his Wife being a covert agent when I heard Joe Wilson say it on national TV.
He obviously knew his wife was a covert agent. And he knew it was illegal to reveal that publicly, since he was calling for Rove to be arrested.
First, how did Wilson know this? He didn't have a job for which he had the appropriate clearance for this information. Could his wife had TOLD him she was a covert operative, and if so was that legal? You can't simply tell your spouse stuff.
Second, since he DID know it, the fact that something has become public does not give others permission to reveal that the information is accurate. So Wilson's outing of his wife should be illegal.
Your link doesn't work.
While I don't doubt Wilson tripped over his own tongue, where do you see Bob Novak in all this?
It was his column, I thought, that started this whole affair.
