I was in SF during the 60s. The *genuine* flower children were fun; not hateful. Their philosophy, while very flaky, was not angry. Beyond calling this "on the heels" movement "wannabe's" (to power, fame) I haven't come up with a term to describe the second wavers. What we all got stuck with were the "angry wannabe's". The peacefulness of the original flower children was shoved aside in the name of Power and Control and Domination; anger and hate. Woodstock exemplified this perfectly, to me.
I suppose Eszterhas and Hitchens are writing about that perpetually angry, forever un-deflowered subset of flower children,
the chronically enraged naifs like Barbra Streisand
and so many of her equally credulous and angry contemporaries on the Upper West Side...
as well as those slightly younger, like Pinch Sulzberger and Michael Moore.
Look, Larry... [W]e were... not at war in the 1990s... and young Americans were not deployed... under President Clinton. What American would not trade the movement in the right direction that we had under President Clinton? John Kerry (viewing movie requires Flash Player 7, available HERE) |
