Linen is a generic term often associated wih cloth.

Linen is from Flax, period. That is the depth of the point, no argument intended. That's why when you buy "bed linen" they are labeled as sheets. since in fact they are no longer linen, but cotton. Maybe, the author should have wrote hemp linens which would include bed linen, table linen, ...etc.
