The information about the Western Union telegram was purposely buried in a comment made this morning, because while I had to announce it, I was embarrased about it.
It just messes up things more. Better you not know.

You didn't get verified delivery - but -you got proof of non-delivery!!
Western Union wouldn't deliver the day of Andy's surgery. They couldn't find him.

So, your mail notification wasn't timely. So what? Doesn't change the fact. He didn't seem to be there the day of surgery. That's what I understand. Western Union returned it to you, non-deliverable.
Western Union seems pretty reliable as a source, to me! They came right behind the Pony Express.
And probably are alot more reliable than fax machines, etc.
(I'll tell you a little something. If someone has ever been in a position to falsify something or other - look to their secretary, or administrative assistant, or whatever they call themslves these days.)
