I read this over and over again and ask myself why the need to make such a submissive statement in the light of an article that was detracted? Surely the detraction should have been sufficient? (We know that no muslim will believe the detraction anyway, so the apology, the pathetic assurances from Condi sound more like FEAR than a goodwill gesture.) Sometimes, silence really is golden, mouth shut would have made more sense IMO.

I agree. Silence would have been preferable at least until the Islamic world reciprocates, and honors the Bible and other religions texts. I guess it's not going to make the top of their list of priorities anytime soon especially if we're not going to push this issue on them.
