From the link posted in #49, what we've been seeing is just the tip of the iceberg:
"Over 225,000 Californians become victims of elder and dependent adult abuse each year. Unfortunately, more than two-thirds of abusers are family members."
[And that is just California!]
I can believe it. I've been hearing about stories for years like this. Mostly they end up on the evening news where Grandpa got beaten by his drug addled offspring for his SS check.
The difference here is that the Court is enabling the abuser.
