"Do you think Bush will ever tell the truth about the costs of illegals?"

He hasn't told the truth about anything else, why would he tell the truth about illegals?

TB maybe?

Yep. According to this article:

"Exposure of emergency department personnel to tuberculosis: PPD testing during an epidemic in the community." Ann Emerg Med 1994 Sep;24(3):418-21 Sokolove PE; Mackey D; Wiles J; Lewis RJ UCLA School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine.

ERs had so many people with TB in 1992/1993 that 40% of ER workers will turn PPD positive (i.e. are presumed to have been exposed to TB) after 60 months working in the ER. Yeah, I know that's from 10 years ago, but the TB epidemic at Harbor-UCLA 10 years ago is likely to be similar to the TB epidemic at other ERs today.

I agree. It seemed that for years it was only the people in the southwest who even knew about this stuff. Now, at least, people are talking about it. It may be too late though. With 20 million of them already here it seems so. You have to blame the politicians and the press for sending our country down the drain. Our culture is being erased and our morale is being sapped as we watch our elected officials destroy our country.

You've got to blame the American people for rolling over and playing dead on this issue , and for voting for /supporting the very officials who are selling our country down the river . OK - what can we do short of taking the law into our own hands ?

I went yesterday to get motorcycle added to my drivers license and had to wait 3 hours for an eye test... "Almost" everyone in there was speaking something besides ENGLISH! Most were speaking Spanish.

I flipped when I saw your Tennessee state flag! I thought by this description you were here in southern California!

We tried to get private medical coverage for our 18 year old grandson. Blue Cross wanted $348 a month. He is a type 2 diabetic, controls it by diet, no medication, no insulin, no problems.

Blue Cross only wants to insure people who have no medical issues, it seems.

We told them to keep it, we would shop elsewhere. Too bad he isn't an illegal alien, he would get his care free...

Ahh, but legal citizens must immunize their kids before enterig the govt. school system. Are illegal kids also immunized?

Whether it is too late or not, whether the people or the politicians are to blame, we cannot go without a fight. There are www.numbersusa.com, www.grassfire.org, www.friendsoftheborderpatrol.com and the MMP, to name a few groups to work with.

There is also your telephone, your e-mail and so forth.

sushiman, I understand that we the people have a responsiblity to monitor our elected officials but we did not always know when we voted what their stand would be on illegal aliens. Government officials have turned their backs on us en masse, not only on this issue.

sangoo is right that politicians and the media have formed an unholy alliance. Personally, I blame the media most of all for the downfall of this country.

Many hardworking Americans who cannot afford quality medical care are forced to pay for total care illegal aliens. This is perverted.

Even those who can afford to pay find that the quality of care is diminished by the illegal aliens hogging the emergency rooms. And why should they, or any citizen be forced to pay for these criminals? Our taxes are high enough.

"I plan on declaring myself an illegal next trip to the medical facility."

From the article: "It is quite simple: just don’t admit that you’re an illegal immigrant. And to help you beat the system, and get by with your illegal activity–congress has ordered the "don’t ask" policy to hospital staffs throughout the nation."

So you can't admit to being an illegal, but they can't ask you either. Don't ask, don't tell. Pure, unadulterated insanity.

If someone wants treatment who looks like they could be an illegal alien (and this includes many U.S. citizens, obviously), they'll get the freebie as long as everyone keeps their traps shut. But woe to the non-Latino American citizen who attempts to take advantage of this "system." If they find out (and they will), you'll be paying every last penny of that hospital bill. .....at the very least.

Truth to the matter is that when anyone, citizens or illegals, show up to the ER of hospitals, federal laws require that they receive medical screening and stabilization. Just recently, I took care of a 46 years old Mexican illegal. He showed up to the ER with severe headache, vomitting, disorientation and confusion. He was found to have meningitis. He subsequently went into respiratory failure and ended up on life support. During his hospitalization, he developed a heart attack and underwent emergent rescue percutaneous coronary angioplasty. Because of the severity of his coronary artery disease, he needed coronary artery bypass graft/open heart surgery. He spent weeks in the intensive care unit and nearly 2 months of hospitalization (rehab unit included). He had all sorts of invasive procedure done including lumbar puncture, central lines, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz monitoring, cardiac catheterization, open heart surgery, etc...not to mention the mountain of lab/blood works, xrays, CT scan, MRI, etc that were done, too. Naturally he could not afford his medical bills and paid not one penny of it. We don't even know where he lives and have no address. The point being, when a sick patient comes to the hospital we have a moral duty to treat. Where does that duty end? Even if the law allows us to turn away patients that show up to the Emergency Rooms, can we live with ourselves, can we reconcile this with our conscience?

I suspect that part of the problem is that we can yak about it. Ranting gets the emotion out of the system.

Do we have the means to organize protests?

You'd think that a forum like this would be a great means for doing so, perhaps a 'organize protests' section?

Who among us is willing to genuinely take on the task of organizing a protest? I would love to see us do what the Chinese did in protest to Japan's textbooks.

Sure makes us taxpayers look like fools. And as taxpayer I am mad as hell.
Wish we had a good third party that would listen to the citizens and not pander to illegals.

Of course, they'll find out because as a citizen you have an SS#, the illegals don't.
