Liberal Lunatic of the Day (4/28/2005) Randi Rhodes

Randi Rhodes, Air America's conspiracy spewing harpy, aired a comedy skit featuring a shooting of President Bush and has apologized, saying she's not afraid of being prosecuted over the matter.  The audio production came during the opening minutes of "The Randi Rhodes Show" on Monday afternoon.

In the skit, an announcer proclaimed, "A spoiled child is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he is going to fix it for us.  Well, here's your answer you ungrateful whelp."  The sound of four gunshots were then broadcast, followed by the warning, "Just try it, you little bastard," and the sound of a gun being cocked.  Rhodes then giggled when the spot finished playing.

Federal officials are now reviewing a pre-produced bit broadcast on the liberal network.

Rhodes addressed the radio bit on her show, which is broadcasting from West Palm Beach, claiming that she had not heard the bit in advance, and actually hadn't heard all of it while it was airing, having put her headphones on at the end of the segment, wondering aloud after it's conclusion, "What is with all the killing?"

Rhodes went on to voice her disapproval of the skit and apologized, taking full responsibility for the segment because her name was attached to it and it aired on her show.  She also vehemently denied that the Secret Service is investigating her at present, and actually invited them to contact her over the matter if they wished.

A statement from Air America Radio President Jon Sinton echoed her sentiments: "We are not under investigation from the Secret Service.  We regret that a produced comedy bit that was in bad taste slipped through our normal vetting process.  We do acknowledge that it was an internal error and internal discipline will be enforced."

Randi Rhodes is just about as shrill a lefty as one could possibly imagine.  Her mannerisms, her voice and her personality are all offensive and you really have to wonder if a person who jokes about murdering the president has a mental problem?

Rhodes said on Tuesday's broadcast that, "This was just a stupid, stupid bit!"  But, if it crossed the line, then certainly, there must be punishment, and if there is, I want to be punished so that I can actually say 'Equal justice under law.'  Anybody that has stepped over this line of law needs to be prosecuted, including me."

On Wednesday, Rhodes offered a classic leftist apology.  She expressed regret, all the while denying personal culpability.  Instead, she infers that any wrongdoing is dwarfed by the sheer evil of her political opponents.  "If they (the Secret Service) had to take two seconds out of their day to look into me, I apologize for that.  But where is the apology when conservatives threaten judges from the Senate floor or from the House floor?  Or where’s the investigation into Ann Coulter’s mouth?"  Huh?

This is her second death threat “joke” directed at the President of the United States in as many years.  Last May, Rhodes said the solution to the Bush administration could be found in The Godfather: “Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and 'bang'.”

For a person who has such a smug sense of intellectual superiority, Rhodes is remarkably ignorant.  She has made the bizarre claim that United States bombed Dresden after the Germans had surrendered in World War II and hectored Ralph Nader on her first show, saying, "Look. Don't tell me how to do radio; I've done it for twenty years.  You screwed up the last election, and now you want to screw up this one, and I'm pissed!"

Air America is the disaster that was predicted and this ignorant woman, along with that fool, Al Franken, is the reason.  Byron York writing in the National Review Online says Air America is on life support.  "The latest radio ratings are in, and they show continued bad news for Air America, the liberal talk-radio network featuring Al Franken, Randi Rhodes, Janeane Garofolo, and others."

Air America recently added a talk show hosted by Jerry Springer and for a network that wants to be taken seriously the king of trash television seems an odd choice.

A clue to Air America's problems is provided by Air America President  Sinton's ridiculous statement that a skit portraying the murder of an American President, "was in bad taste."  Bad taste, indeed!  It was vicious and maybe a felony.

Probably planned the whole "This was just a stupid, stupid bit" thing well in advance

Even without this new problem, things were boding ill for the Rampaging Kossacks of Air America anyway.

I suggest all Freepers write a letter to the FCC to complain.

www.fcc.gov
select "Contacting the FCC" and then E-mail the 4 commissioners.

It wasn't even funny, that "bit". I vehemently dislike Jon Stewart's politics and his swarmy attitude, but I have to admit some of the skits on his show are funny.

I didn't like South Park making fun of Mel Gibson and "The Passion", but it WAS funny, having Mel Gibson as Mad Max from the Road Warrior chasing the kids in a gas tanker back to South Park (sorry for those who don't watch it).

This "bit" from Air America was not clever, well-timed, or funny. Besides being a felony, which it clearly was and Rhodes should get keel-hauled for it. (figuratively speaking)

In addition to not being clever, well-timed, or funny: if this bit had been broadcast word-for-word by a conservative about President Clinton, does anyone believe the libs would be giving the same tired, whiny excuses for the behavior of said-conservative radio personality???

I think not!

I found the fact that The Today Show got a hold of her and wanted to interview her and play the skit. I'm sure Katie Couric was behind that. She'd love to get that out over the air and plush about how it wasn't bad at all.

Kraft is a big advertiser for the Today Show so I wrote them asking how they could support a program that wanted to support such bad taste and obvious bias. They wrote back they would "review" support of shows whos content is questionable with their support of standards that offend their consumers. I'd like more people to write them complaining so maybe they can hit the Today Show in the pocketbook and give them a wakeup call on wanting to actually add more of an audience to the bad taste of the skit.
