"Elizabeth Edwards" Admonishes DU'ers Lack Of Compassion For Laura Ingraham
April 27, 2005 | Mister Republican

Posted on 04/27/2005 6:35:43 AM PDT by MisterRepublican

"Compassionate" liberals? You wouldn't get that impression from the hate spewed from Democratic Underground upon the news of Laura Ingraham being diagnosed with breast cancer.

"nonews" posts a thread stating: "Laura Ingraham has breast cancer, Let's keep her in our prayers.

"nothingshocksmeanymore" responds: "No. Cancer isn't a good thing, but it's her problem. I fell no obligation to pray for people who make the world worse.

Several others post similar comments.

Then "ElizabethEdwards" responds to "nothingshocksmeanymore":

"Of course we wish the best for her in this fight.

I have been a Democrat for a long time, and part of the Democratic principles that attracted me as a young person and kept me a Democrat all these years is our compassion. Democrats are simply good and decent people. And good and decent people want everyone to do well -- those who agree with them and those who do not. We fight for the right of voices with which we disagree to speak out, for the right of people to say things we don't believe to be true, even for the right to be malicious and mean-spirited. If we fight for the right for LI to say what she says, how in the world can we use our disagreement with those words as an excuse not to be compassionate in her fight with cancer. Being willing to have her voice muted by illness is the same thing as not wanting her voice to be heard. It is not Democratic or democratic.

I hope others will join me in wishing her Godspeed in this fight, for the easiest road that she can have, and even for the development of compassion about others who have faced hardship and disease without the support network she -- and I -- have. As I go through treatment for this same disease, I think often about the women who fight breast cancer without health insurance, without a supportive husband, with a physically demanding job that doesn't know or doesn't care that she is exhausted and weak and aching, with children but no child care. I find it absolutely impossible that LI won't also have those thoughts run through her head or that she won't rethink her position on health care or the social safety net. Pray for her health AND her enlightenment, if you must. But pray, with me, for her good health."

You would think this post from the legendary "ElizabethEdwards" might help change the tone. But it doesn't.

Later in the same thread, Marnieworld states: "She's another Ann Coulter. David Brock wrote much about Ingrahm in "Blinded by the Right." She is part of everything evil in the GOP since the revolution in the late 80s. F*** Laura Ingrahm. F*** her.

So much for "compassion".

If it was me I wouldn't want these people wishing me good luck. Having evil and stupid people on my side is not something I want. IMHO Laura probably couldn't care less what this lowlifes think.

I saw this over in the DUmpster earlier. I really do wonder if this could be a major eye-opener for Mrs. Edwards. That thread was truly horrendous (but in no way unusual for DU), and she got a bird's eye view into their dark, shriveled "hearts".

I pretty much agree with this person. No, not in their opinion of Laura Ingraham, but in the principle that prayer for the good health of those who harm others is foolish. For example, the socialists at DU support confiscatory taxation. As such, they are co-participants in chronic violent extortion toward my family. If such a person dies, I am relieved that there is one less thief in the world, not saddened.

Yep. And I remember one thread (pulled by DU mods) where DUmmies were excited about Ashcroft's pacreatitis. Generally, if any Republican falls ill, you can bet there will be a DUmmie thread celebrating that fact.

In all honesty if this was Michael Moore with cancer I doubt the reaction would be much different here from many Freepers.

When Senator Wellstone passed away, more then 90% of the posts were sympathetic and caring.

Even the DUmmies were kind of caught of guard (they trolled over so they could feel outrage, and when they posted threads from here over there, most of their posters were surprised by the overwhelming compassion).

It doesn't say much, but most of them thought that it was freepers or Bush that killed him.

I think you are wrong there! We are not like DU, the vast majority here at FR, if not all, would not react like DUers, no matter who the person is! Yes even Michael Moore, we would wish Godspeed.

Exactly. I rarely if ever have seen anyone wish ill personally to someone here, even the Clintons during the height of their scandles becoming public.

There were several folks on the DU who rushed to kiss Mrs. Edwards' backside when she admonished them to be civil, to be sure, but you can be just as sure that had someone else made the same comment, they'd have been flamed mercilessly for being sympathetic to the enemy. They only appeared penitent because of who it was that upbraided them.

Seriously, is anyone really surprised here? This is the modern democrat party. Look at their chairman for God's sake. All they offer now is hatred and I personally hope they keep it up.

This is about the third time I've seen a post about Elizabeth Edwards taking DUmmies to task about something.

Almost makes feel bad about calling her a fat cow.

Almost.

Ya know this may be YOUR view, but I for one really REALLY don't like mikey moron. That being said I can honestly say that I would NEVER take that tone if he were to contract cancer. I don't care who it is, with the exception of the likes of Usama or Adolph, I would never wish them pain and suffering that this disease brings. You must differentiate between dislike for what a person stands for and hatred so deep that you lose all compassion. I think this is one of the biggest differences between the left and the right today. We on the right still have some compassion for those we disagree with.

I'm with you. I recall when Peter Jennings announced his cancer just a few weeks ago, the vast majority of comments on FR were compassionate. A few wisecracks may have been made, but nothing like the ones related here about Laura.

You are wrong about that. I'm sure you have tons of responses to this particular post of yours.

We had prayer threads for Bill Clinton, we had prayer threads for Elizabeth Edwards. We have also prayed for various others including Peter Jennings.

David Brock wrote much about Ingrahm in "Blinded by the Right."

My God...I thought everyone on the planet knew that Brock wrote that book right before he went into a mental institution...the info in it is probably about as reliable as The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

I'd pray for him. I think it was Booker T. washington who said we should never do another man the favor of letting ourselves hate him.

I can say with certainty, they have seen the last of her on that site.

I'm about to give her the biggest compliment I can: You are 100% correct, speed, and the only way we could be more certain is if she said so. I cannot imagine reading that crap over there while suffering breast cancer and thinking, "If I were married to Rick Santorum instead of John Edwards, those clowns would be saying this stuff about me!"

Even the DUmmies were kind of caught of guard (they trolled over so they could feel outrage, and when they posted threads from here over there, most of their posters were surprised by the overwhelming compassion).

I was at my sister-in-law's farm in Northern Wisconsin the day he died. She thought my wife's expressions of sympathy (and my own) were fake, that we were mocking her or at best, trying to look good. Finally my wife had had enough of the subtle digs. She spun around and said, "After what happened to Mom and Dad," (my in-laws died in a small airplane crash about 25 years ago) "you really think I can't feel sympathy for a family that just lost three people in a plane crash? When those kids woke up this morning they had loving parents and...now...they...don't!"

Liberals need to make up this sort of stuff about us, or toherwise they'd have to think about issues...

They can't wake up. They need to dehumanize us, in their heads, any kind of human or normal stuff can not be true, or accepted.

Its like how many different societies dehumanized their enemies to the point where they were faceless monsters, once in power, we know how they carried out their ambitions.

If somone is evil, to the core, and some kind of demon bent on destroying you, then any act can be justified against them. Its the equivalent of making ones self psychotic with intent so as not to have a concious when they do something horrible, because they believe their cause is the right thing.

Its something also common with terrorists.
