Lucianne.com What happened to its volume? {vanity)
http://lucianne.com/ ^

Posted on 04/14/2005 1:04:44 PM PDT by DogBarkTree

I use to frequent Lucianne.com several times a day before discovering Free Republic. I was banned from the site a couple of years ago for a reason I thought was pretty silly. I directed a disparaging comment towards the staff for what I thought was a very insensitive comment they added under a headline on a "Must Read" article. The next day I found that I was unable to log on.

My question, has anyone else noticed that activity and new articles posted on that site have slowed down a great deal? I like Lucianne Goldberg but I have a feeling her editors and "PC" interns have done serious damage to what used to be an excellent news forum.

On your advice, I did check it out. Figured I'd register while I was there.

They're no longer taking registrations and have formed a waiting list for when they start again. Geesh.

Trixie runs her site with an iron fist. I have no objections, it's her site, but it makes the place boring.

OTOH, the sites with no oversight at all are even more boring as wackos get the upper hand.

FR: Just right.

I only bother with her son's work at NRO.

Thanks Corin!

I found about about FR FIRST, back in the heady days of '98. I found out about them at the Houston Rally against Clinton. It was there that I first learned about Matt Drudge and then Trixie, who then revealed herself to be Lucianne Goldberg. I remember the rancor that chased those two away and Lucianne announcing that she was going to start a forum of her own. I was a longtime poster of that under the username "YrWorship" until there was a major meltdown at her site, and the mods got really tyrannical and started banning everyone for no good reason.

Somehow, I dont remember how, I got reinstated, but had to choose a new user name, 'esgaroth', and had been slightless involved in the discussions there, but mostly because I had discovered blogging and got most of my political ranting out there.

I don't think Lcom is anywhere near as good as it used be, and I think there is one reason why : Lucianne doesnt do her own blognotes anymore. All the staff does is post a pretty picture and a blurb. I dont know why this is so. Maybe she is too busy with her radio program; maybe she is spendng more time with the grandchild. But the site is considerably deficient in her wit and charm because she no longer writes up her own links. Her staff/mods are POOR POOR substitutes.

I got banned recently during the Terry Schiavo crisis...like so many others, FOR NO GOOD REASON. And what is REALLY rude, and has been characteristic throughout the history of Lcom, is that the staff won't even take time to explain why. Not even in a pathetic form letter. Lcom is no blog. BLOGGERS at least have the courtesy of explaining why they banned one or some people, especially if those posters have been regular commenters. You get no such courtesy from Lcom. I can give them the benefit of the doubt and say that they are too busy, that's fine. But they aren't nice people. Powerline and LGF are nice people.

I have a particular fondness for Lucianne because I remember the Before and I think she has created something wonderful. But I get the sneaking suspicion she has only nominal control over things now and we are dealing with Lesser Beings who cannot uphold her persona of wit and political commentary.

So be it. FR is rougher around the edges and there are parts of FR that I would rather not wander into, but it is a fun place, and it never fails to entertain. Plus the Hobbit Hole is a wonderful community.

So what if Lucianne has a particular "way". The National Review completely different. Ditto for the Weekly Standard and (God bless them)Reason.com. I view the lot of them as allies. Let us win the war then we can fight over the spoils.

I agree with you. I like Lucianne's humor and check out the Must Reads every day. I don't post there much but I'm glad she's there for those who prefer her format.

It's where a lot of "You people" went after Lucianne chastised us for daring to talk to each other on HER forum...I remember that.

She had asked if we want to talk about news or just chat.
Of corse we all answered, news.

Then she started banning people that asked how are you?

Someone mentioned PipeBombNews and I went there. I found FR from PBN.

As I recall, your handle was the same there as at FR, 'carenot' ... at the time I joined FR, it hadn't occurred to me to change my handle. [If it's a comparison between Jim and Trixie, Jim wins hands down. I will have to admit that I admired Lucianne during the clinton escapades, and her befriending and defending a certain WhiteHouse/Pentagon employee (initials LT) was admirable, also. In fact, I'd love to have Lucianne as my literary agent ...]

I was GrannyK at L.dot for a long long time...

I rarely go there anymore. I wasn't banned, just got bored when we could no longer address one another directly. Silly rule.

Well she seems to have coined the word FReeper, which will one day be in dictionaries. I don't know if she quit FR in hopes of making money on her own site, or because she thought we were low class.

Best I remember, she liked GW and Jim didn't at the time.

good grief...we have a biker bar thread about Trixie's site.

What next, will my ol' chum Arator be running exposes on her finances?

I'm with you Hans. I go to Lucianne.com many times during the day. Her headline links are always valuable, and never a dull moment with the humorous and biting comment given to each one. (I don't know whose in charge of zingers over there, but the comments have the same sharp wit of Lucianne herself.)

I've been crazy about Lucianne ever since I met her at the first March for Justice. She's a ton of fun, she's one of the good guys, and I really appreciate that she runs a tight ship...no idle chatter.

Maybe they thought you were hurting the feelings of vile pigs by comparing them to liberals.

I haven't been to that site since I was kicked off a few years ago. I don't know what the point of that site is, actually.

It's Lucianne's site of course, and she sets the rules and her mods enforce them. But what's the point if people can't respond to each other or go after the author of a lame article. And, if people quit responding to the site because it's no longer of interest, then what's the point of even having one. I too don't understand their restrictions, and I no longer care either.

During and right after the election, I didn't miss Free Republic, Powerline, Hugh Hewitt, Instapundit, Polipundit and SoundPolitics. Now, I pretty much check in on Free Republic and Rush Limbaugh's site daily,

I also like Little Green Football, but no one but Charles is allowed to post a subject. The discussions tend to get real chatty very quickly.

Yeah, well, some of us "old timers" remember VERY well when Lucianne trumped up some ridiculous "feud" with Jim Robinson and FR .............just so that she could do her level best to rip off this site and create her own, competing site.

Anyone here that chooses to dispute that better bring your fire-retardant underwear, because I was here and watched the whole, sordid thing unfold.

Lucianne is an opportunistic b**ch.

hmmm I noticed that FR itself has also been slow with new postings lately...

Are we getting bored? or what?

I used to be addicted to freeping- now I can read pretty much all that is new in an hour or so and then there is nothing else new

It's hard to remain cordial after reading an article from a liberal rag that cheers over the death of Americans.I think calling that person a vile pig is understating how disgusting and perverted his mind is.
