Anti-War, Anti-Military At It AGAIN!
PABAAH ^

Posted on 04/12/2005 12:01:03 PM PDT by Jon Alvarez

Your help is needed once again! We were victorious yesterday in getting common sense to prevail at Jamesville-Dewitt High School. This one will be tougher as the City of Syracuse is dominated by liberals. Please contact the administrators and politicians listed below at the City of Syracuse School District and at Syracuse City Hall. Please politely inform them of your displeasure with administrators in the school district allowing a political, anti-American group (they call themselves "counter-recruiters") to disseminate information with the intent of countering the efforts of military recruiters within the high schools. Today's Syracuse Post Standard reported that this group has been granted unfettered access to students DURING the school day at 3 local schools so far!

TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: antimilitary; antiwar; counterrecruiters
I went to Nottingham High School today to witness their activities (2 non-students were present, disseminating info) and to get copies of their literature. I really liked the "You can't be all that you can be...IF YOU'RE DEAD" handout. Sick and inappropriate stuff. The literature being handed out is full of distortion and misrepresentation, along with scant sourcing of their claims and assertions. One example: They cite a 1995 study (which I cannot even find on the Internet) to substantiate their claim that the military fosters an atmosphere conducive to rape, with the wild assertion that one in three women are raped! This propaganda has no place on our high school campuses. Of course, the news crews were out to provide coverage, I was able to get my point of view on one camera.

From the "Peace" Council website about their efforts:

Youth and Militarism
The Youth and Militarism Task Force, coordinated by SPC, continues to move forward. The Task Force has an engaging agenda for the next few months. Fourteen people attended the first session of a Draft Information Workshop to train people to assist in outreach work.

Outreach has begun to schools to book presentations about the issues facing young people regarding military recruiting, the draft and draft registration. To help us arrange presentations at schools, community centers, faith community youth groups, etc., contact Kelsey at SPC or [antioch@peacecouncil.net]. From their site:
A Marine’s Eye View
Retired Marine Staff Sgt. Jimmy Massey will be in
Jimmy Massey in Iraq.
Syracuse on Thursday, March 10 as part of a regional speaking tour. After participating in the invasion and occupation of Iraq, Massey was deeply troubled by the civilian casualties he witnessed. “It just hit me like a ton of bricks. What in the hell are we doing? Not more than five minutes ago we were taking out bad guys, and we’re now killing civilians,” he said.

Massey will speak at 7 pm at South Presbyterian Church (S. Salina St. and Colvin St.). Earlier in the day he’ll address the Thursday Morning Roundtable at Drumlins, speak at OCC at noon (Fireside Lounge in Gordon Student Center) and at SU (Kittredge Aud., HBC Hall) at 4 pm. This is a perfect event for your pro-war neighbor, skeptical sister-in-law or other non-activist colleague. Spread the word. Contact Andy.

That Massey guy has been totally debunked. Yet he's still going around filling these kids heads up with BS.

getting some press!

Radical Anti-Military Group Given Propaganda Rights to Syracuse (N.Y.) Public Schools

SYRACUSE, NY, Apr.12/05/TRC Media/ - Just when you think there’s still hope for integrity in academia, we hear more stories like this one in Syracuse, New York, where the School District there is permitting a radical left wing political group to disseminate anti-military propaganda to students who may be considering service to their country as a career choice.

In a story released today (April 12th) by the Syracuse Post Standard, the anti-American group "Peace Action" is being given virtually unfettered access to Syracuse High Schools, during school hours, to try and dissuade future graduates from talking to military recruiters there. These "counter-recruiters" are armed with pamphlets that cynically proclaim "You can't be all you can be...IF YOU'RE DEAD" and that, among other bits of dogmatic pap, reference spurious studies professing to prove that nearly one in three women who join the military are raped! It is reasonable to say that the actions of this group amount to symbolically spitting on our servicemen and women while simultaneously hiding behind their uniforms.

Aside from being stunned with incredulity by the sophomoric and irreverent scare tactics being employed by this fundamentalist (read: reflexive anti-Americanism as a religion) group, one is left to wonder if anyone informed them that the very liberties that they are now exploiting were, and continue to be, bought and paid for by the blood of those they seek to marginalize, undermine and vilify. Perhaps their school administrators were too busy socially re-engineering them to provide them with a proper and objective lesson in American History and Civics.

According to the Post-Standard report, “Peace Action” is loosely knit coalition of “peace” groups trying to counter what it perceives to be a growing militarization of America’s youth. The idea to establish this coalition apparently germinated out of fear that a military draft may be reinstituted following the November election. So, let me see if I have this right; these leftists don’t want to serve in the armed forces, so they seek to weaken American military preparedness further by discouraging those that do? Call me obtuse, but if they were to be successful, wouldn’t the resultant reduction in our all volunteer forces actually increase the need for a draft? The logic doesn’t compute, nor do their stated intentions. These self proclaimed peaceniks are nothing more than an anti-American set of misfits seeking to weaken their country…and they’ve been given a hall pass to do it.

This pandering to the radical left wing element in our academic settings is an (anti) American pandemic that is now being scandalously epitomized by the allowances of the Syracuse School District, its Board of Education and City officials.

Contact them to (respectfully) voice your concern and urge them to once again embrace integrity in education:
