Concerning Illegal Immigration (Vanity)

I have a feeling that what I'm proposing is so obvious that there must be something wrong with it that only I, in the whole wide world, have managed to miss.
Still: why not impose a big fine for employing an illegal alien, say, $25,000? Then make the reward for turning in such an employer $25,000 plus, if the informant is the illegal alien in question, automatic permanent resident status.
Then sit back and let market forces go to work. I don't think it would be very long before the demand for illegals dried up.

Why should my employer pay for something the government should be doing. I and my employer pay enough in taxes for the INS to do it's job.

You may want to re-read the post. It seems to have traveled directly over your head.

Lets not let the dino's define the debate. (ie: nuke option vs Constitutional Option)
An IMIGRANT is by definition legally in this country.
Some one who has entered this country illegally is:
1. An illegal alien.
2. An invader. Especially if sent by a foreign government.

Well, lets make sure this doesn't happen again :) Now, if we can only get through to Kevlar.

My name is Jose Jimenez. Grut hired me to act as his chauffer and part time lawn service. Proof? I don't need no stinkin proof. Take my word for it, I have a good track record of being an honest upright person (well, except for that whole sneaking in illegally thing..). Besides now that I have fleeced my patsy for $25K, errr.. scratch that last part.. Now that I have learned the error of my ways and turned that loser Grut in, I am no longer illegal, right?
To: Grut
Because until we have a virtually foolproof biometric national ID system, it will cost a whole lot more than $25,000 per case to prove that an employer knew the employee was an illegal alien -- and in most case will be impossible at any cost.
Forget all the specious arguments against a national ID system. If it's biometric, then you don't have to carry anything with you. WIthout such a system our economy is being devastated, our security compromised, and our votes diluted by illegal alien voters and illegal multiple-voting U.S. citizens.

I am sure, over the years, I have hired illegals to do house work and do garden chores. You going to fine me $25,000? It is a big complicated problem. There are a lot of villains and few heroes in this whole mess.

I agree. I would simply set up a corporation and make a deal with an illegal immigrant - I'll hire you, you turn me in, you'll get your green card and we split the reward. In the mean time, I'll file bankrupcy or abandon the corporation and scoot out on the fines. Then we'll be back to square one.

Well, it appears that most illegal immigrants use fake id's. When the employer is questioned about tax contributions on fake id's, he or she simply fires the employee who goes elsewhere. Perversely, it makes a lot of money for the rest of us. These workers are paying into the SS system and have no way of claiming benefits later on, as their id's are fake. So, in actual fact, we all benefit. The penalties of hiring someone without an ID or SSN are severe, but a fake SSN is easy to get, especially if you are paying in and not taking out. The best solution is at the visa level, not the working papers level.

I believe (gut feeling, no actual study to back it up) that if a cost/benefit analysis were done taking into account the losses suffered by the healthcare industry as well as all of the other ancillary costs to our economy it would far outweigh any benefits brought about by unclaimed money going into Social Security and any other ancillary benefits.

whoops.. overlooked that phrase..

I believe quite a few of them are paid under the table, at least in my area. Especially farming and construction.
