So why is SS heading for the rocks now after so many years? Well no longer enough workers to supports their parents - why? the jobs for workers are now outsourced to other countries. Answer - Let's put a worker social security tax on imports.

I would give up over 23 years of deposits (worked at a young age) to opt out NOW. What a *hitty deal for a 39 yr old. That being said, the hub has some serious money into the system. Sad all around.

Hate to say this, but it is already too late to reform Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. The imminent financial tsunami will hit this country starting in the 2010's (Medicaid/Medicare) and culminating in the 2030+(Social Security). My recommendation is build your financial lifeboat NOW!!! Good book to read "The Coming Generational Storm" by Kotkiff and Burns. The book came out last year. It is still available in paperback. Read and prepare. Do not place your faith in either party because the Dems have leftwing socialists who will stop the reforms, and the GOP has RINO from liberal North Eastern states who are too timid to support reform. The conservatives do not have the strength in the Senate to pass the reforms. Reform were needed in the 1990's to make it painless, and we are in 2005 and ticking. By the time our politicians build up the courage and coalition to reform, it would be 2010+. It is already too late unless we have a dictatorship. If we fail to reform we will have inflation. Read the book, it gives you recommended investments for the lifeboat if reform does not happen. Our country is heading for hard times similar to the Great Depression. If we survive it socially, the post crisis world will be different. I think the country will survive, but it will not be the Republic that we know and grew up in.

I just hope we haven't hurt our children with all the spending. Whatever they do to end up fixing it, it was us that looked the other ways while the politicians were throwing the money away. It's our mess and shouldn't be passed to our kids.
