If you look carefully at this time line you will see that Terri had "NORMAL" CT's of the brain on 2/25 and 2/27...

There is categorically and absolutely NO WAY Terri could have suffered MASSIVE ANOXIC INJURY TO THE BRAIN ON 2/25 AND HAVE NORMAL CT SCAN ON 2/27...

IF TERRI DID NOT SUFFER ANOXIC DAMAGE ON 2/25 THEN THE REASON FOR HER BRAIN ATROPHY WAS CAUSED BY SOMETHING THAT OCCURRED after 2/25 namely in the hospital during February or march of 1990...

So Terri WAS HIT ON THE HEAD OR DROPPED ON HER HEAD DURING LATER FEBRUARY OR EARLY MARCH WHILE IN THAT HOSPITAL.

You seem to be heavily invested in defending the validity of the PVS diagnosis. How you can be so seemingly confident given the growing number of neurologists and doctors who are calling that diagnosis into question is beyond me.

Articles like the the ones I've linked to below should give any rational person pause about PVS diagnoses. If society is going to starve and dehydrate a person to death based upon a medical diagnosis there should be no doubt whatsoever about the validity of that diagnosis.

Terri Schiavo has had neither the standard medical tests (including an MRI and PET scan) nor the extensive clinical observation that should be mandatory for any finding of PVS on which an effective death sentence is to be predicated.

By the very definition of Persistent Vegetative State, the patient must exhibit no “evidence of awareness of self or environment” or “ability to interact with others.” As one neurologist put it, if a patient shows “any response to the outside world, the patient isn’t in a PVS.” All it takes, according to Dr. Jones, is “only one examiner to discover the presence of higher brain function and the naysayers’ opinions are, by the very definition of PVS, null and void.”

It is not I who am heavily vested in the diagnosis of PVS. It is her four GALs, neurologists, parents, doctors, etc., all of whom have testified under oath.

I think she should be hydrated and fed and another trial with other judges and doctors held, with viewing on Court TV. It is the only way for people to fully understand the case.

Have you seen the numerous freepers who claim she was never seen by a neurologist, never had representation by an attorney, Michael tried to kill her, etc? These are people who never, at the least, read the Wolfson report. It's almost like it's been implanted in their DNA that the rumors that swirl around this matter are true, while sworn testimony is not true.

Did you follow the link below which was cited as a reference for the Codeblueblog article? I can't find scans of the actual documents at their site, but it sure seems detailed enough in terms of mentioning specific doctors and dates, etc. to at least have a credible air of authenticity. The bias of the source site is obvious, though, and that always makes me leary.

You're right to presume that it's not always a black and white science and there may be different degrees of degradation to the brain. What seems significant is the amount of time that has passed without improvement.

One has to wonder, would she want to live another 15 years like the previous 15 years?

I'm with ya. There's been a lot of "editing" going on with a lot of the information.

This has become such an important issue, on many levels for the whole country, and it would appear some people are being manipulative? It's a shame really.

That would be ideal. I fear though if would only continue to undermine what the "system" is.

It brings to mind the practice of the left to go "judge shopping" until they get the verdict they want?

It's hard not to feel for the parents, Terri, her husband and the emotions of many. This matter has set precedence on many levels already, e.g. the gov. stepping in, the FL legislature stepping, the US Congress and Pres stepping in not to mention the numerous reviews bye the courts.

"We are a nation of laws". If we as a nation are to be civil society we must respect those laws. At what point does this case become so contentious , so questionable as to the application of the laws and the judicial system that we begin to breakdown as a society?

Republicans, especially since Reagan, have championed states rights. Now we have these same Republicans doing the exact opposite. They will never have the high road regarding states rights again and it may be to the detriment of us all.

The thought of what Dems might do in Congress should they ever get a majority again and a Dem in the White House. Now....they have tacit approvel of Republicans to inject themselves into any state and its governance. IMHO :-)

The recovery rates of patients in longer period PVS are not my concern here. My concern is with the PVS diagnosis itself. What if it's just plain wrong?

There appears to be a significant amount of misdiagnosed PVS cases in general, and a growing chorus of credible neurologists and doctors who are casting serious doubt upon the specifics of Terri's diagnosis. She sure as hell shouldn't be starved to death if there's even the slightest doubt as to the PVS diagnosis.
