I am all for saving Terri, but this is damn scary. Talk about a slippery slope.

If official action is to be taken, I'd rather see the Capitol Police do it to ensure that Terri is available for a Congressional summons. Failing that, it is time for we the people to take matters in our own hands.

And it was Congress who started it with this law that stands a slim chance of passing constitutional muster.

She is an American Citizen and the President has the DUTY to protect. President Bush says it in his speech of protecting Americans from harm. I have faith Bush will step in and save her.

Is it more of a slippery slope than the legalization and normalization of euthanasia?

I agree.

Sending out the police would give a liberal president or governor a precedent to send out troops to support their liberal view on abortion, death penalty, Iraq war etc.

If the State Police or the FBI observe a murder taking place, they are duty-bound to step in and prevent. They can stop the murderer and whisk the victim away to safety. And...most importantly, they don't have to ask a court for permission to perform their duties. It's part of the executive function.

The distinction between that and this situation is that a court has authorized this murder. Does that stop the State Police from acting? Maybe in a court of law, but they could probably act first and then let the courts decide. Does it stop the FBI from acting? Not if a Federal law is being violated by the murder, the FBI is not bound by state law in that event. For example, some states have legalized marijuana, but the Feds can still come in and arrest those that use and traffic in it, because it's a violation of Federal law.

The "slippery slope" is an outdated metaphor.

We are about a half inch from rock bottom.
