If you are a thinking person of principle you will not launch into a civil war easily.

I agree.

But I'm surprised that a rescue of Terri by a lage patriotic pro-life group, hopefully unarmed, has not been more widely debated. Obviously, the judiciary is corrupt, and it must be corrected. A huge popular uprising might force the legislatures to take back their authority over the judiciary and reign in these SOB judicial activist tyrants.

And that would be an awesome first step in turning back the firmly entrenched culture of death ruling the judiciary.

Had this happened in 1988-1993, Operation Rescue would have benn there and you would have seen several 10,000s of folks gather in Florida for a peaceful Rescue as they did in Wichita in 1991. George Bush the elder was criticised for not condemning Rescue and was his strongest pro-life stand.

My wife was among a small group that attempted to rescue Nancy Cruzan in that era. The movement sadly died out after Wichita and by the mid 1990s was nearly dormant. It has not come back.

Governor Bush, as the chief executive of Florida, is responsible for enforcing the laws of the state. The primary purpose of government is to protect life, liberty, and property. The life of Terri Schiavo is clearly threatened due to Judge Greer ignoring much evidence that indicates that she is not in a persistent vegetative state and that Michael Schiavo is a de facto bigamist and is not acting in Terri's best interests. Furthermore, Governor Bush is a practicing Catholic. Roman Catholicism has historically emphasized the importance of preserving human life. The leader of the Catholic Church, Pope John Paul II, has stated through a spokesman that Terri Schiavo should not have her food and water terminated. Jeb Bush should be bound by his conscience to defy the decision of the judiciary of his state and use the state police and social services to save her life.

The duties of a chief executive must encompass the spirit of the law when the letter defies that spirit. He is also responsible for his actions before God. Presidents Jackson and Lincoln defied Supreme Court decisions, and are considered among the great figures in American history.

The effect of such action to save Terri Schiavo, should Jeb Bush pursue this course, would depend on whether the state police or National Guard (if it comes to that) are moral men who will follow the dictates of conscience and thus follow their governor and ignore contempt of court citations from the black-robed tyrants. The clock is running out on Terri's life. If the Federal judiciary at the 11th Circuit and the Supreme Court drop the ball, she will die. In that case, Governor Bush will be the Pontius Pilate of the 21st Century.

By those standards, if they had to apply as a whole, the founders would not have been justified in rebelling at arms against their duly constituted government...and yet they were so justified.

The best way to do this would be for a LARGE group to grab her, put her on a fast chopper and get her out of the country. Probably to Cuba. Castro would go along with it because it would be a stick in the eye of the USA.

I have always thought that reading the Declaration showed that they did adhere as much as possible to those standards.
Jefferson outlined Just Cause; the actions were taken by a Legitimate Authority (lesser magistrates, if you will); Right Intention was clearly laid out; only probability of success was uncertain, but that is the hardest one to judge in any case, and "with a firm reliance" upon the creator, and the approval of other nations, they judged it worth a try; every attempt was made for proper Proportionality, and the DoI was clearly written to show that it was taken upon as only a Last Resort.

IMO, the problems we would have today (should an 'alteration' become necessary) are the Probability of Success - again we must rely on providence and help, and the hope that many in the armed forces would not follow orders or fire on US citizens - and the finding of a Legitimate Authority willing to act.
We are rapidly approaching the point of last resort. Perhaps some only want it to become apparent.
