Another ridiculous mascot controversy from the left.
"The use of this mascot is outrageous, it's been going on way too long and it should come to an end," said Kim Edward Cook, association president. "We've tried for a long time to work with the Board of Trustees with the University of Illinois and we haven't been able to get them to recognize that the use of the Chief Illiniwek is a racial stereotype and is damaging to all Native Americans."
When the American Indians are asked, they are completely OK with, even proud of this type of reference to their culture. BTW notice I did not use the term "Native American" because the majority prefer to be called American Indians.[snip]
Isn't liberalism beautiful ??? See what it has done to our legal system -- the mere fact that the courts put up with this PC crap, shows our judicial system is in a runaway state...all the way to the SC!!
Nah, I disagree. Let's remove absolutely all traces of Native American culture, just to make the liberals happy.
Does he look like a 'wild west' Native American (i.e. classic profile like on a nickel), or a 'Connecticut casino-indian' (i.e. "Little Richard" Penniman)?
I'll see if I can dig it up
I knew there was a study done and here is a summary.
The Harris poll showed that 81% of Native Americans support the use of Indian nicknames in high school and college sports, and 83% of Native Americans support the use of Indian mascots and symbols in professional sports. Sports Illustrated concluded that the "poll suggests that although Native American activists are virtually united in opposition to the use of Indian nicknames and mascots, the Native American population sees the issue far differently."

Thanx, I knew it was a majority but i wasn't aware it was to that extent.
Don't know how to post a photo on here, so I posted on my blog ....OpiniPundit
