The Ides of March, 2005 was the first day consumers could purchase one of the world’s most widely read Bibles, the New International Version–fully "revised".
Archaic language in the Holy Book must have been getting to the tragically hip. So much so that a team of 15 American and British scholars were sent to parse and modernize it.
Would it be too politically correct to say what the scholars really did? They watered the offensive Bible down and whitewashed its words under the time-wasting guise of only wanting to modernize it.
The original writers of the Bible did not enjoy the same working conditions of 21st century scholars. There were no government grants going the rounds, and, of course there were always the jaws of the waiting lions.
We cannot say how the lions and lambs fared in the thousands of corrections made by the scholars.
But the "aliens" in biblical tales are now "foreigners".
With everyone at the United Nations now claiming to be one, the scholars likely didn’t get around to re-naming the word "angels".
The term "saints", which may have been good enough for the faithful, but not good enough for the bible clean-up crew, got axed. Too "ecclesiastical", they said. From now on, you can call Francis, Agnes and Patrick saints in your memory, but they have been banished in favour of the description, "God’s chosen people".
The Virgin Mary, for your information, is no longer "with child". She is "pregnant". At least these busybodies of academe did not resort to the colloquialism of "preggers".
Remember the age-old truism that when God created man he created him in the likeness of God? It now reads when "God created human beings", etc., etc. . . . .

I keep holding out hope that that "no adultery" thing will become a suggestion instead of a commandment. Also, I think loving my neighbor as much as myself is too tall of an order. How 'bout "like thy neighbor as much as you like your personal water craft". Religion should be convenient, not burdensome (/sarc)

First we will re write history till it conforms with our particular liberal world view.....
now we will attack the bible to make sure that it gets its fair share of corruption....
Then we will rewrite the classics..... why because they teach morals and ethics .... the liberals can't have that happen.
The NIV? Hasn't that been around for quite a while. Have they further revised it?

What you said! Add water skiers to the list, too, along with other fishermen who think that my catching something means they have to head over my way at 40 mph.
On those two, I agree. It may be hard to believe, but many people would not understand the definition of alien.
Then I guess it would be okay for you to despise your neighbor. I could sure use that latitude right now.
there is nothing wrong with using modenr english to correctly translate the Bible, however to mis-translate is wrong. The original Hebrew says G-d created man . Hebrew is like the romance languages and has masculine and feminine forms of nouns. If feminists don't like what it says too bad. The Bible is not the supreme court- things cannot be "reinterpreted" for expendiency. there are absolutes.
For a good Translation of the original Hebrew scriptures go to an Orthodox Jewish bookstore. The problem will be finding an authentic translation of the Greek New teatament the way things are going.

The problem with the KJV is that it was , while very aesthetic, was a third rate translation. I suppose that if the Jews had not been expelled from England during the Crusades, there could have been some authentic Old Testament, Hebrew scholars in England that could have made the KJV both aesthetic and accurate( at least the OT).
