IMPORTANT SPECIAL ELECTIONS COMING UP - March 15! (last updated 3/9/05)

Marriage Newspeak

by Jeff Jacoby

Boston Globe, Sunday, March 13, 2005

BACK IN 2003, a few days after the highest court in Massachusetts unveiled a constitutional right to same-sex marriage, I ventured a prediction.

''Sooner than you think, it will become improper to speak of unique sex roles in family life," I wrote. ''The meanings and status associated with words like 'husband' and 'wife' will be erased from the law; most likely, the words themselves will be replaced in statutes with the unisex 'spouse,' just as 'father' and 'mother' will give way to 'parent.' "

The changes soon began. . .

And here's how we're getting there. . .

What if Pushkin comes to shove over gays?

By Howie Carr

Boston Herald, Friday, March 11, 2005

Here's a prediction: Next Tuesday, in the special primary to fill the House seat just vacated by Rep. Brian Golden, the openly gay candidate Tim Schofield is going to sweep to victory, at least in Ward 21, precinct 2.

I go out on this limb because Schofield's crew has registered 127 new voters, almost all of them BU students out of Warren Towers, the dorm known as Riot Central. These must be very, very committed voters, considering they weren't registered to vote, at least in Massachusetts, for last fall's presidential election. But then, so many BU scholars were preoccupied last fall with throwing rocks at cops, not to mention tipping over cars and then torching them in Kenmore square to "celebrate" the Red Sox.

Until now, when the gays realized they could maybe pick off this House seat in Allston-Brighton, hardly anyone ever voted in a primary in 21-2. Here are the numbers for the last five primaries in 21-2:

Sept. 2000: 7 voters turned out.

Sept. 2002: 43 voters. (Robert Reich fever!)

Sept. 2003: 2 voters.

Sept. 2004: 6 voters.

How much do you want to bet that next Tuesday the gay gets 100 votes out of 21-2 -- a big number considering it may take less than 1,000 to win the seat.

I called up Tim Schofield and asked him if it was his campaign that registered the BU students.

"Yes, we did it," he said. "Actually, a couple of students came to us and volunteered to do it."

Gay or straight students, Tim?

"Straight, I believe."

This race is another skirmish in the struggle over whether the voters of Massachusetts will be allowed next year to decide for themselves, in a referendum, whether gay "marriage" should be permitted. Schofield won't say he's against putting gay "marriage" to a vote that the homosexuals know they would lose resoundingly, as they have everywhere else. He says only he's "against a constitutional amendment."

If Schofield wins, the sodomy lobby have one more piece of evidence that the voters "don't care," because the rep who resigned, Brian Golden, was the most conservative Democrat in the House. His aide, a sometime Republican named Greg Glennon, is running to replace his boss, as is Mike Moran, the only native of the district who's a major factor.

What Glennon is counting on is a block of voters on the other end of the district -- the Russian immigrants in 21-13. There's maybe 500 of them, and they loved Golden, maybe because, like the Tolman brothers, he has a Jewish-sounding surname, even though he's Irish.

Anyway, Glennon should inherit the bulk of the block vote in 21-13. Boris doesn't want to marry Ivan he has his eye on Natasha.

So think of this fight as the Russian Revolution. Glennon leads the White Russian army currently decamped on Wallingford Road, while Schofield commands the smaller, riot-prone Red Army down on the steppes. Caught in the middle is Mike Moran, the Alexander Kerensky of this campaign, trying to appeal to both sides. His vapid slogan is "I Like Mike."

As for Schofield, he says he doesn't expect a much bigger turnout in 21-2 than in the big Reich year. Still, if I were one of the other two major candidates, I'd be plotting a dirty trick for this weekend.

But if Schofield does win . . . will the BU riots be as big as when the Red Sox prevailed? Of course not, but I still wouldn't park my car in Kenmore Square on election night. Let me quote Dan Rather to the besieged voters of the 18th Suffolk: "Courage!"

=== 2. LAST FEW DAYS – BODIES ARE NEEDED (from home or in the district)!! A few hours of your time could make the difference. ===

THESE RACES CAN BE WON. BUT EVERYONE’S HELP IS NEEDED. Even if you don’t live in the district (or in the state) maybe you can make phone calls.

18th Suffolk District – Brighton, Allston, Brookline

Help Greg Glennon win this election!

POLL-CHECKING, SIGN HOLDING: On Tuesday, the Glennon Campaign needs people to work the polls holding signs, or being inside doing "poll-checking" – checking off who's voted and who hasn't, so they can get last-minute calls reminding them to vote. This is a VERY important of any campaign, and it's a pretty interesting experience if you've never done it before. You could put in as little as a few hours, but it's really important.

CALLING: On Monday, Monday evening, and Tuesday, people are needed to call "friendly" voters, who've already been identified, to make sure they get out and vote. This is important, because this is a primary and usually people don't get around to voting. That's why as little as 1,000 votes can win this, and every vote is so crucial. You can call from your home, or from their call center.

To get on board and help, either:

12th Suffolk District – Mattapan, Dorchester, Milton

Help Kerry Roberson win this election!!

Kerry Roberson's campaign needs help CALLING on Monday, Monday evening, and Tuesday, and SIGN-HOLDING on Tuesday, and also in distributing the flier in the district that we made for him.

To help the Roberson campaign, call them directly! Call his campaign manager, Mishella Etienne, at 781-964-7557 or the campaign office at 617-361-4100.

Update on the Roberson mailing:

In our last email, we asked for contributions to mail out the flyer. (Thousands of copies of the flyer were already printed.) We needed as much money as we could get by Thursday – less than 24 hours. We received about $450.00, which paid for about 1100 stamps and some other materials. This was given to the Roberson campaign, which immediately started mailing and passing out the flyers in the district!

You can click here to see the flyer. (Adobe Acrobat format – folds into thirds)

=== 3. Update our $50,000.00 challenge. ===

Started on: Sunday, Feb. 14

Goal amount: $50,000.00

Total so far since Feb 14: $10,406.00

This time we're not going to bore you with a long-winded appeal. We're in the heat of the battle. And there's a lot more coming up after this. Please help if you can.

MA freepers: If you live in ANY of these districts, take your friends, family, neighbors, and yourself and VOTE! With the numbers on these past voter tallies, no wonder the gay lobby is getting into power. Those numbers are pretty disgraceful!

***KERBY ROBERSON (Mattapan) - Against gay marriage

ERIC DONOVAN (Dorchester) - Neutral on gay marriage

EMMANUEL BELLEGARDE (Mattapan) - Won't discuss the issue!!

LINDA DORCENA FORRY (Dorchester) - Endorsed by homosexual PACs

STACEY MONAHAN (Dorchester) - Supports gay marriage

Comment: Forry is Haitian, well-connected, and the strongest of the pro-gay candidates - has major endorsements from homosexual lobby (i.e., a sell-out to community). Monahan is an aide to "pro-family" Congressman Stephen Lynch (what does that tell you?) and is getting big support from the left-wing labor unions. Donovan has deep roots in district, is former assistant district attorney. Says he favors putting gay marriage on ballot, but doesn't care if it wins or not. Bellegarde doesn't want to talk about the issue at all.
Kerby Roberson is very vocal pro-marriage, willing to stand up and be counted. Very bright & articulate, is Haitian and has strong ties in the Haitian community. Would represent that district very well.

Campaign: "Kerby Roberson Committee", 108 Blue Hill Ave., Milton, MA 02186 Email: attkerby@aol.com OR mishella_etienne@yahoo.com

18th Suffolk (Democrat) - Brighton, Allston, Brookline

Incumbent Rep. Brian Golden, a Democrat, was appointed by Governor Mitt Romney as a commissioner of the Department of Telecommunications and Energy.

***GREGORY GLENNON (Brighton) - Against gay marriage

MICHAEL MORAN (Brighton) - Supports gay marriage

TIMOTHY SCHOFIELD (Brighton) - Gay activist, endorsed by homo PACs

JOSEPH WALSH (Brighton) - Supports gay marriage

Comment: Gregory Glennon was an aide to Rep. Brian Golden, knows the district well, and has a pretty strong campaign going -- but he can really use help. Glennon is first-rate! It'll be tough, tho. Shofield is a gay activist, and is getting big financial and organizational help from the homosexual lobby.

Campaign: "The Glennon Committee", 617-782-3636

3rd Berkshire (Democrat & Republican) - Pittsfield

Incumbent Rep. Peter Larkin resigned in January to take a job as a lobbyist.

Democrat Primary:

***RINALDO DEL GALLO (Pittsfield) [Write-in] - Against gay marriage

PATRICIA "PAM" MALUMPHY (Pittsfield) - Supports gay marriage

RHONDA SERRE (Pittsfield) - Supports gay marriage

CHRISTOPHER SPERANZO (Pittsfield) - Supports gay marriage

Republican Primary:

MATTHEW KERWOOD (Pittsfield) - Supports gay marriage

TERRY KINNAS (Pittsfield) - Supports civil unions

Comment: What a sorry state of affairs! On the Democrat side, Rinaldo Del Gallo is a very solid pro-marriage candidate. Unfortunately, he had some party registration issues (currently in court) that kept him completely off the ballot, so he's running a pretty strong campaign as a write-in. We think he has a chance in a field of four. The three other Democrats are completely gonzo on this issue. Malumphy is a Pittsfield city councilor.
This is a very solid Democrat district, so it's considered unlikely a Republican will make it. Kerwood is very well-funded and well organized. But he is the ultimate RINO on this issue -- he actually compares the same-sex marriage ruling to the Emancipation Proclamation! Kinnas does not agree with same-sex marriage, but supports civil unions - essentially the same thing. Says the issue is not important.

Campaign: "Committee to Elect Rinaldo Del Gallo", 79 Nancy Ave., 01201 413-443-3150, R_Del_Gallo@hotmail.com
