From a Social Security Reform Town Hall Meeting:

When Camp tried to reassure seniors that the proposed changes would not affect them, our seniors responded with outrage at the notion that “what affects our children and grandchildren does not affect us” … there was also a senior there who shared a story about how he purchased a $2,000. investment account for his grandchild, and the account was only worth about $500 now.  some other seniors had similar experiences

Someone who represented people collecting SS disability benefits brought up the fact that these people (about 30% of the recipients) were being left out of the proposed ‘reform

We found out by getting our hands on a Republican press release ... I don't know what organizations it was 'released' to ... and then we sent out an action alert via email, and our county party chair then called everyone to ask them to attend.

I would recommend contacting your Senators & House Rep. to find out if they will be coming your way. I didn't find any mention of the event in our local paper, and our paper is a Republican rag. Seems they would have celebrated the fact that rubber stamp Camp was coming to town.

If you have any success stories, please share them.  If you have a town hall meeting coming your way, I hope you’ll prepare a group of people and give a strong showing like the Dems here in Shiawassee.  Good job to all of them, & good luck to all of you who have one of these town hall meetings coming your way.

It's a world of constant rainstorms for progressives(ie liberal Democrats). So being able to show up at these town hall meetings and cause a riot is the ray of sunshine called hope.

I guess this guy on SS disability wanted a private account even though he was already getting a check now. It's like the guy on welfare who crying for his 'tax cut'.

A $2,000 investment becomes $500. I take it they invested the whole thing in one comapny's stock and are telling only the highest and lowest points.

I had one of my mutual funds do this to me. ONE of my mutual funds that I threw $2000 into a super specialized fund as a gamble. As I am fairly young, no harm, lesson learned. Ask me about how the rest of my investments are doing.
