Aaron the Rantblogger has informed me, somewhat bluntly, that Hunter S. Thompson has killed himself.
"Good riddance," says Aaron. I don't know if I want to be that cold. People kill themselves because they suffer so badly that they are sure that whatever surprises death may hold, it has to be more pleasant than life.
At the same time, I think Thompson was a profoundly disappointing man. For all his talent, he was a monumental poser, and to my knowledge, he never said anything remotely genuine or important. And I think it's likely that his glamorization of drug and alcohol abuse led a lot of foolish kids astray. Aaron and I are among them

Thompson was the typical garden variety hippie generation Liberal dirtbag. His writing, the columns in particular, epitomized the kook fringe Liberal ideology.
I have always wondered. Since thought itself travels pretty damned quick do people like Hunter think....just as the bullet is traveling up the barrel, "Man, this was a stupid idea!"
