The problem as I see it with her running is that a lot of Southern Democrat and rural vote that went to Bush last year, won't vote for her. A perfect example is the Louisiana Governor's election in 2003. Though he was a fairly strong conservative, Bobby Jindal, whose family is from India, though he's Catholic, could not draw enough votes from the more rural north LA. parishes.

Look at the history of the majority of black politicians. Liberals like Jesse, Carol Braun, and Sharpton come to mind. People less informed will be leery of her.

And sadly,I think that race in many areas of the country still trumps the competency of Rice.

Sadly, I have to agree. Jindal had no business losing that election, but there are still some areas where people will either stay home, or vote for a candidate because they're white. Kathleen Blanco ran a vicious race-baiting campaign in 2003, and it helped her narrowly pull it out, despite the fact she lost her own hometown. Skin-color does still matter in some parts of the country.

Fortunately, Jindal was elected to the House from the 1st District last year, and I think we're lucky to have him representing our state. Maybe he'll give it another go at the governorship once Blanco proves how incompetent she really is.
