Around four in the morning last Sunday, an LAPD patrol car spotted a 1992 Toyota Camry being driven erratically on Century Blvd in Los Angeles. The officers tried to pull over the vehicle, but a chase ensued.

This story is like so many that come out of LA every day. Angelenos love their car chases, and sadly enough, it has become a form of entertainent for the local news channels. The San Onofre nuke plant could be doing a Chernobyl, but if there is a car chase going on, all other news stops. After OJ, car chases have become as common as celebrity divorces.

This chase ended like so many others, in a hail of bullets and a dead suspect. What makes this different is that the suspect was a thirteen-year old honor student. Why he was driving a stolen car at four in the morning we may never know. What we do know however, is that after crashing into a fence on Western Avenue, the police pulled up behind the car and ordered the driver and passenger to come out. Instead, Devin Brown put the car into reverse an hit a patrol car, at which point an officer fired ten rounds from his weapon, killing Devin.

Another young black youth has been killed by the LAPD. Community leaders are 'outraged' but who is really at fault?

Who is at fault? The kids mother; he was, afterall at 4 AM in driving a stolen car. Why wasn't he home, in bed?

Also at fault is their whole community, who allow this nonsense, and even now whine and protest in obvious ignorance.

Yet, to talk of their lack of civilization is insult their race which is a big no-no.

I have been in circumstance where all pretense of civilization was dropped, and its a gut wrenching thing which destroys parts of your soul. Civilization is but a veil.

Why are civilizations different? Some proceeding the curve, many falling below the curve. How do we merge these different curves into a homogeneous society. It sure as hell isn't by lowering the curve to the lowest level.

I think it's outrageous that the media panders to the
public's puerile love of car chases as a form of entertainment. I used to live in a state where a teen-
ager pulled out of a service station without paying for
the gas. A high speed police chase ensued and four people
were killed (including a pedestrian) -- all over a few
dollars worth of gas. After that a (sensible) law was
passed that prohibited such highway mayhem UNLESS there
was a life in imminent danger.
