"The district said in the motion that there's no factual evidence to back Williams' claim that his constitutional rights were violated"
This is a matter for the court to decide. It was quite apparent the principal was trying to influence the teachers use of historical documents in his classroom. Being they were historical documents, how in the world can you disagree with them. History is history except for you liberal, politically correct goons who are afraid you might hurt the feelings of some minority group somwhere.
Education is going downhill fast in this country, because people like you want to teach selectively. People involved with the past history of this country were not handicapped this way. It would be virtuously impossible to try and teach

politically correct history, since it never existed.
You are completely missing the point, even though it sounds like 3,000 Americans tried to explain it to you. Perhaps if you would shut up long enough to analyze what the rest of America is trying to tell you, your school district could have forgone a law suit.

However, national media attention on the lawsuit is still alive and kicking. Ferro said she recently escorted New Yorker writer Peter Boyer around Cupertino and he expressed surprise at seeing a number of churches in what he had heard was a "heathen" town.I wonder where he heard that.

Mom sure seems to be a proud product of the public school system she's so proud of. Spend the money for a spell checker before you become the mouthpiece for a school.

Peter Boyer is actually one of the few fair, thoughtful (liberal) writers out there.

Well, it was nice to see how much I've been missed. First, yes, I really am a Cupertino Mom...born in San Jose, graduated from Del Mar High School and Santa Clara University, worked at Tandem Computers and then Compac... a totally local product. I am a terrible typist, an even worse proofreader, and a complete neophyte using forums, so apologies. I do not represent the ACLU or anything else. I'm just a mommy whose children have been placed in the cross hairs of thousands of angry people.
We view most of the details about the legal case as a private personnel matter between our evangelical teacher and our principal. There was much more to his lessons than the handouts sited in the law suit, and we will feel more free to comment after the case is dismissed or when the case reaches discovery. One of his lessons has made it into the public domain; Mr. Williams' proposed Easter lesson is posted at http://www.eriposte.com. While laudable for high schoolers in a comparative religions class, it seems inappropriate for 10 and 11 year olds to me.
Mr. Williams is entitled to his day in court, but it is my opinion that it will not go well; time will tell. The progress of the case seems almost insignificant when compared to the media frenzy caused by the incendiary and false headline of the ADF. I feel the ADF knowingly mislead the entire nation, and I will continue to write until they issue a public retraction and an apology. It is only through web sites like this that the message of a tiny community school can compete with that of the ADF, with its cadre of lawyers and its $15 million budget.

I am a Christian, I am a mother at school and I don't hate other Christians or other groups either as I don't believe that's a Christian value. However, I do not agree with what Williams was doing. I pay him to teach history, science and math, not religion. I go to church every Sunday for that and don't trust teachers to teach it well. Would you? How do you know a teacher would not put his or her own imprimatur on what he says in class about religion? Would you trust me to teach history to your kids and not go overboard on my own beliefs? Do you think a math test that posses the question "God+ Jesus=" is an acceptable question in a public school?
Stop branding people. That's the recourse of the nonthinking. It's easier to put people in boxes than to think of the issue.

Is "eriposte" your site?
It's loaded with hippie garbage - pro-homosexual Agenda stuff, (attacking President Bush, calling him an idiot, etc), it praises China(!) for it's environmental stance, and besides the other countless Leftist talking points, it "liberally" links to "Daily Kos", the absolutely lowlife sewer diver who said "screw them" concerning the 4 who were dragged through the streets of Fallujah.
But hey, does it matter if it's your site or not? Either way, YOU don't have a shred of credibility.

The teacher was "advised" by the principal that he would have to run materials through her after the 13 complaints came in. I believe this was as much to protect him as it was to make sure he was in compliance with the State Code of Education.
Other Christian teachers have not been "disciplined" as you put it. Williams evidently crossed a line, and it must have been a huge crossing because we are extremely tolerant of people's beliefs, and as you can see in the parents website, have had Christmas and Hanukkah presentations for the kids with no complaints at all!
Some of the complaints against Williams, by the way, came from Christians parents. The fact that we have an ethnically diverse community doesn't mean that other ethnicities are not Christian. In fact, most Asians I know around here belong and attend Christian churches of different denominations.
He deliberately pushed the envelope.
To: roylene
On the contrary, my friend, the principal is being sued for trying to maintain the integrity of a founding document. Who was banning the Declaration? The teacher who only wanted to show three paragraphs of it, or the principal who said: it's in the book and it's complete there. Use the one in the book and teach the kids the entire document"? Think about that one.

I'll have more faith in what you say once you have some discourse or time under your belt. Until then, give me a break [liberal troll?].
I didn't "brand" anyone except liberals. You just joined today so how could I have even been addressing you, much less putting you "in a box". I made a general comment on how leftists love to hate Christians. If you disagree well then that's just lovely.
