Alan's senate run was foolish to say the least, however he was asked by the Illinois Republican party to run. Put his loss in Illinois squarely on them.
You say he's unelectable but did you know that in the NH 1996 primaries he out polled Bob Dornam, Phil Gramm and Dick Lugar. He actually had more votes than those three combined.
