problem--i want to copy an essay to my cd, but xp won't let me, saying that i don't have access to the d folder, ask my administrator. i am the administrator!
there must be a simple fix.
thanks
It's your shift key.
Okay, I'm going to ask a stupid question. Is that a CD-R you're using? And do you have a CD burner on your system? Okay, two stupid questions.
r u series?
Series. Set your beeber to stune, and answer the question.
yeah, to both.
it's a new compaq notebook. that's all it has is a cd burner.
no 1.44 mb floppy; they're gone.
Using Windows XP, you can copy tracks either to a compact diskrecorder (CDR) or to a compact diskrewritable (CDRW).When you first insert a blank CD into your CD recorder drive, Windows XP opens a dialog box asking if you want to open a writable CD folder.
Depending on what your needs are, you can choose to open a folder or not. The Always do the selected action check box remembers your choice if you don't want to be prompted every time.
With the folder open, you can drag and drop files and/or directories into it. Windows XP makes a copy of these files in a special staging area until it is time to burn the CD, and displays a list of the contents waiting to be recorded. At this point, you can still change your mind about any of the contents in the folder. Simply select and delete any files or directories you don't want copied. They are removed from the staging area only, and your original files are not deleted.
If you attempt to place more content on the CD than its capacity allows, you will be notified. Typically, a standard CD holds 650 MB, a high capacity CD holds 850 MB. When you're ready to record, just click Write these files to CD in the task bar to the left. The CD Writing Wizard opens and prompts you for a label for the CD. You can enter up to 16 characters. Click Next and the wizard displays a progress bar indicating the status. If you did not select the Close the wizard after the files have been written check box, then a final dialog box opens, asking if you'd like to make an additional copy of the same files.
thanks.
Right-click the task bar. Select properties. Click the Start Menu tab. Click the Customize button. Click the Advanced tab. Check the box next to "Favorites Menu". Click Okay twice.
Get yourself a USB flash drive like one of these since you have no floppy. Gives you a place to offload and backup files.

Make a copy of the file you want to write to the CD to the same folder and see if it works. If it works, try copying the copy to the CDW.
Also check the properties of the file on the D Drive.
Assuming you mean when pressing Start and the window appears with a list of programs, etc., right click on a file application name and select "Pin to Start Menu".
If you want your favorites on the start list: right click the taskbar, choose properties, go to start menu ( tab at top) choose customize, check the box next to display favoites.
thanks.
it worked.
Now you need to work on that shift key.
Great - Make sure you get one of those USB flash drives. They are worth their weight in gold. If you look for sales, you can get 256MB for like $40. That's a lot of mail you can archive.
Do you have a third party burner software installed? Either Roxio or Nero is tons better and faster than XP's built-in burner.
"there must be a simple fix."
It's called a Mac.
It's supposed to be simple?
Don't buy it from the a computer store. There are lots of online companies selling the OEM versions of those programs for under $10.
