I'm not completely buying it either. The way the news was given, just flat out "he's dead" to her signature, "Kephra's Mom" doesn't look right. My skepticism may be because my wife had an online friend (Sim's site stuff) who faked her death.

As for the "Kephra's Mom" thing, see my post just above. I believe he was on DU when he died, so all mom had to do was sit down, hit the "new thread" button and start typing.
From what I can tell, Kephra was sort of a kattracks/JohnHuang2 type, posting tons and tons of news articles, for which the DUers were very grateful. He was a big name over there.
