I was born in '67. Was SO DAMN THANKFUL when the 70s ended. I remember people burning disco albums : DISCO IS DEAD! LONG LIVE NEW WAVE!! Time for MY fav 80s memories :

Favorite Television Shows :

I SO wanted to be Laura!!!

Just got through watching an episode of Magnum PI this morning! My sophomore history teacher had a huge poster of Tom Selleck in her classroom, which we girls loved.

Just found this about the Simon&Simon show whilst looking for pictures

MOONLIGHTING...how could anyone forget THAT show!? I LOVED that show.

And of course I loved Family Ties. How could I not...practically my whole class could have been Alex P. Keaton!! With a few Mallorys thrown in.

The Golden Girls

Designing Women

My favorite bands :

I was NUTS about Men At Work. No one understood it. I thought they were fun. And that's all I wanted to care about in the 80s : music that was fun...not sexual, not dark politics, not anything but fun.

Cyndi Lauper. SO unusual! Daughter loves the Goonies, which Lauper did the theme song for. Ran around with friends when a junior in HS...whenever we heard "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" song on the radio, we'd find the nearest parking lot, turn up the radio, and dance like maniacs around the car. Silly teenagers?? you betcha. But it was FUN!

I couldn't get into Adam Ant at the time, but he holds a fond place in my heart now for the memories of a friend who absolutely adored him. Pictures of him warred for space with whatever pictures of Harrison Ford we could find.
Oh you know what...I cant even begin to describe all the musicians that I loved. Duran Duran was definitely one of them, but I also liked the Eurythmics, the Cure, Madness, the Cars, Huey Lewis...so many others. HATED MADONNA, THE SKANK. Liked Thriller, but not necessarily Michael Jackson himself. I liked his work prior to Thriller, but I considered it more 70s than 80s. Heck, I remember him when he was part of the Jackson Five!

Favorite Movies :

SAVE FERRIS!!!

I drooled over Andrew McCarthy. LOVED Breakfast Club, because it SO described life in my high school. Pretty in Pink is my fav of the Hughes films.

Okay, guys, how many of you GenReaganites remember watching CAROL BURNETT?!?! Not a huge 80s presence like in the 70s, to be sure, but man I loved watching her reruns!! My dram teacher in high school always ended whatever our UIL competition and the school year with "Im so glad we had this time together...!"

a good 80s site

Quite interesting how those who liked pop music and those who liked rock always seem to agree on the 'The Cars'.
