When I was 12, I was spending the summer at one of my uncle's ranch like I did most years. He had a massive heart attack while I was there. This man was one of the most highly decorated Texas veterans of WW2. He lived hard and loved every minute of it. He worked putting out wild well fires, merchant marines, even as a hire gun a couple of times. He died in the pick-up truck while my cousin and I were driving him to the hospital. I was in the bed of the pick-up with him when he died. At the very end, he smiled and said, "Damn! That was fun." I said, "What?" He answered, "Life." He passed out and died a few minutes later.

I made it my mission in life to live a life worthy of making those my final words also.
