It amazes me that people somehow think that because Bush didn't "speak in person" or rush to the White House that somehow he's "insensitive" to the tragedy in Southeast Asia. Its simply an logical leap with no foundation.
"Although U.N. Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland yesterday withdrew his earlier comment, domestic criticism of Bush continued to rise. Skeptics said the initial aid sums -- as well as Bush's decision at first to remain cloistered on his Texas ranch for the Christmas holiday rather than speak in person about the tragedy -- showed scant appreciation for the magnitude of suffering and for the rescue and rebuilding work facing such nations as Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and Indonesia."
The "sensitivity police" won't accept the fact that the proper official, Colin Powell, Secretary of State, was on the job. And you can be sure that Powell and Bush have talked at length about the tragedy and what the US can do. One can only assume that the critics would rather have had a Bill Clinton style lip-biting session for Bush to prove his sensitivity, much like the sesssion we saw from Clinton as he watched the Hutus murder a million Tutsis in Rwanda.
Let's just hope like hell Bush doesn't use an autopen to sign any relief orders. His critics are likely to come completely unglued.
When he went to Florida after the hurricanes he was being accused of "using the disaster for political gain". Now they can't get enough of him?
Those opposed to President Bush just can't stand the fact that he was selected for four more years. It is eating away at them and they want him to fail so badly, they refuse to see the good in him. These people will do or say anything to make him look bad and place blame on him, wherever possible. When he had his news conference this morning, only ABC aired it here. PBS, NBC, SeeBS all ignored it. Does anyone remember a President being treated so disrespectfully?
I agree. The "COM-POSTIES" just cannot stand having another 4 years with President Bush in power. It's typical though of that and many other papers. I love it that they are so angry! But you know, the president just stays above the fray and just keeps looking forward. I admire that in him. God Bless George W. Bush!
Looks like it's been pretty well FReeped, lots of funny stuff on it.
