He would have been better off with a partnership agreement that recognizes and leverages the positive achievements of Georges enterprise. George could do the home loans and potter could do the small business and other corporate work. They could both focus on their core competencies and achieve a successful symbiotic relationship.
Instead Potter established an unnecessarily adversarial relationship with his competition. That kind of hostile atmosphere created a negative image of his concern. It was unpalatable to do business with him thereafter.
However the relationship is far from unsalvagable.
