Humanitarian Assistance Site Established In Fallujah
FALLUJAH, Iraq -- The cleanup efforts by approximately 75 internally displaced men helped beautify the Jolan Park here recently, while 20 members of the Iraqi 1st Public Order Battalion readied a new headquarters nearby, and elements of the I Marine Expeditionary Force delivered truckloads of humanitarian aide to the park.
Jolan Park, once a busy marketplace and amusement park surrounded by multi-family homes, may be one of the first neighborhoods to be reopened to its residents. Residents will be able to pick up food and water, and gain area reconstruction information at a Humanitarian Aide Station that will be located at the park.
Currently, Iraqi contractors are employing internally displaced residents to assist in efforts to clean up the city. They are paid six dollars a day to remove rubble, sweep streets and help create temporary support structures. Great progress has been made. I do not know if you keep up with current events, but the Marines are following Lessons Learned by New York Mayor Rudy Juliano on how to clean up a city and make it crime free. In this case, insurgent free.
The 82 Airborne would have few things to say about being first into a war zone.

I don't keep up with current events? I'm not the one who can't spell Giuliani. Moreover, I'm not criticizing the work that's being done. I just don't think that it should be the Marines doing it. I was under the impression that if it wasn't a first strike thing, it wasn't in the Marines' domain.
