MOMMY, HAVE I DONE SOMETHING WRONG?

Mommy, have I done something wrong?

Andrea Yates was the mother of five beautiful, innocent children. She drowned them all in a bathtub and we are supposed to feel sorry for her. When her seven year old son saw his baby sister lying lifeless on the floor of the bathroom, he asked if she was all right, to which Andrea answered, “get in the tub”, Noah ran, but not far enough or fast enough. The last words he spoke just before his mother drowned him in the bathtub was: “Mother, have I done something wrong?”

I say we are supposed to feel sorry for Andrea, because as a woman she suffered from postpartum psychosis. Frankly I am sick of the liberal media portraying women as victims.

Hours after the guilty verdict convicting Andrea, her husband was interviewed on Larry King Live. “She’s a victim, she’s not a criminal.” Tell that to Noah her seven year old son and their other children who were robbed of their lives; thank you for giving us your perspective once again Larry. “She doesn’t need forgiveness, she needs compassion”. Larry never challenged one word of that idiocy.

The word is that the creator of “Desperate Housewives” was inspired by the Andrea Yates case, and decided upon the name of the series after discussing the Yates case with his mother and after she said “I’ve been there.” What nice people think up these insulting programs that are devoid of all socially redeeming value? Without intended to disclose his own sordid childhood Marc Cherry has shown us how and why he chose to portray all married women as desperate.

Leah Sullivan of Pasadena California wrote this to the editor of the Los Angeles Times:  I am saddened to read the tragic fate of Andrea Yates. The death of her five children is tragedy enough. Why must we be such a punitive, mean-spirited society? I may be overstating my case against the liberal mindset of urban Californians, certainly there are closet conservatives who live and work there as well, but if God gives those Californians a pass, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorra. Ms. Sullivan who is opposed to punishment and demands that we give Andrea mercy asks: “What is wrong with us?”  What is wrong with you Leah, is that you live in one of the most liberal areas of the country, have lost all perspective, and will have no chance of redemption if all you consume is the Los Angeles Times.

A L.A. Times staff writer showing his liberal bias had this to say about that: In 2002, despite testimony that she suffered from severe postpartum depression and schizophrenia, a jury found that she knew killing her children was wrong, convicted her of murder and sentenced her to life in prison. Scott Gold the author must have a bleeding heart for those children whose lives were so mercilessly ended by the coldhearted act of their mother. Not really that unthinkable if you consider how many abortions are being committed each year.

The problem, they tell us, is to be found in the "new momism," a ruinous cultural trend that has taken over the American psyche, insisting that "no woman is truly complete or fulfilled unless she has kids, that women remain the best primary caretakers of children, and that to be a remotely decent mother, a woman has to devote her entire physical, psychological, emotional, and intellectual being, 24/7, to her children." This ideology, they contend, a far cry from the sisterhood days of 1970s feminism, has "snowballed since the 1980s and seeks to return women to the Stone Age." Such was the report on the L.A. Times. The Mommy Myth: The Idealization of Motherhood and How It Has Undermined Women; Susan J. Douglas and Meredith W. Michaels.   How much do you want to bet that those two authors are domestic partners?  Frankly, I’m also sick of lesbians tell us the rest of us how great their lifestyle is. If it were so great, than why all the hostility to ours?

Oh my, I am a man, but that makes me want to cry like a baby. I cannot understand how someone could murder a child, especially there own. I am going straight home and give my eight year old son and big hug and kiss.

All the jury did was correctly apply Texas state law regarding the insanity defense. However, they did show her mercy because she could have been given the death penalty.

I know I will get flamed for this as I have in the past.

Andrea Yates is insane. Her husband knew she was insane. He continued to get her pregnant and forced her to homeschool the kids, knowing she was insane. He forced his family of six to live in a converted school bus in Florida until he finally secured a job in Texas and an actually dwelling for them. He made a few lame attempts to get her treatment, but still left the children with her when he knew she was in a downward spiral. He isolated her from friends and family throughout the whole marriage by not letting her work or drive or be around her family.

I am not excusing what she did, by any means. Rusty Yates is no prince and is as culpable in the deaths of those babies as their mother.

I hadn't looked at it like that before. I think you may have a pretty valid point.

Thank you. I have had clients like Andrea Yates when I was a practicing Psychologist and they do not get better.

Tack on the refusal to take medication and you have a recipe for tragedy.

I agree SHE is ultimately responsible but he bears some of the guilt for the deaths of those babies.

In my opinion, he certainly does. Did you know he recently divorced her to marry a new honey? I shudder to think of it. The man has shown no understanding of his role in this tragedy.

Frankly, it's too bad their mothers didn't exercise their drowning privileges.

And more than likely this woman is not a stable person either.

I can't imagine a woman in her right mind wanting a relationship with such a controlling man.

We may see him in the news yet again in the future.

Thanks, Sandy. You would not believe the whipping I took on here for even suggesting this when it happened.

You won't get flamed by me, that's a very accurate summation. Good ol' Rusty's behavior at his childrens' funeral was enough to chill anyone. Her family needed to do a major intervention, but how does a family do that with a psychotic daughter enslaved to her husband?

“She doesn’t need forgiveness, she needs compassion”

Only if the definition of the word "compassion" is the same as it would be in the case of a rabid mad dog.
