Richard Morgan Falsely Blames Republican Party for 2004 Election Losses Morgan Proclaims Himself Great Leader Despite Giving Control of NC House to Democrats
Richard Morgan recently sent out a letter and statement trying to defend his coalition with the Democrats and blame the "NCGOP Establishment," and critics such as myself, for the Republicans not winning a majority of the House seats this year. One would assume from Morgan's statement that he tried as hard as he could to elect a Republican majority to control the NC House.

Morgan's note is so bi-polar, actually writing about himself in the third person. His view of the Stephenson landmark court decisions, a process still hanging like a sword over the Demopublican's heads, is pure nonsense.
Art was bound to respond and is historicallyu accurate. It isn't a he said she said kind of thing.
The appalling lack of interent in this topic says a lot about the depth of understanding about the importance of this issue.
Had Morgan not slept with the Republicans, a lot of subsequent damage would have avoided, and it is possible both the House and Senate in NC would now be in Republican hands.

Art Pope has no business casting any stones in his glass house. Between the two of them, Morgan and Pope have set back NCGOP progress over a decade.
Nothing more than two petty old men peeing on each other's shoes. The sooner NC Republicans learn to recognize these types and push them to the side, the sooner we can get on with establishing Republican majorities in both houses of the General Assembly and the sooner we'll se a bona-fide conservative in the Governor's Mansion.

NCSteve,
Right now, NC just doesn't have a Republican majority with in the voter base.
That's the real problem.

Pope is really no different than Morgan, he is just angry because Morgan wouldn't bow before him. He and Morgan both engaged in scorched-earth politics that left several districts with ineffectual representation. Furthermore, Pope assumes this ultra-conservative affectation but is not particularly conservative, at least not in the way I would define a conservative. The people he supports are most definitely not conservative.
Pope is simply part of the decrepit old NCGOP machine that hangs on to life and holds NC Republicans back. These ridiculous people are more interested in power and perquisite than in making a difference in North Carolina.

There is both good and bad news for the NC GOP and a future that could go either way. In the next ten years the state party may could very easily work past in problems and be the dominant party in the state or they may fall flat on there face become a permanent minority.
The good new for the party is that North Carolina is a very conservative state that votes for Republicans federal offices, the bad news is that the state party has had such poor leadership for so long that it has taken its toll on the party.
To give a few examples there has been a revolving door with state party chairman position, two have had to resign under indictment, while others were defeated for reelection, and the last chairman resigned to run for Governor, and was accused by his primary opponents of using the state party donation list which is not allowed.
The GOP leadership in the general assembly has also had its problems. To begin with the Democratic party leadership has taken a position some call "Republican lite" which has been received favorably by the business community in the state and allows the states Democrats to at the very least by even on fund raising if not actually having an advantage over the GOP. The leadership of the GOP has tried to create a coalition with Democrats, but not with the conservative elements of the party but with the most liberal ones. It has lead to the GOP receiving the backing a state employee assassinations and league of conservation voters, and has some success with an outreach with the NAACP, but this has not translated into votes from either state employees, environmentalist, nor the black community, and it has made some conservative voters suspicious of the GOP instead.
If the GOP is to become the majority party I believe it needs some big leadership changes, but right now no one who could do it seems interested. Sen Dole has taken a hands off approach state party, and Sen Burr, election team was lead by Paul Shoemaker who is a big Richard Morgan supporter.
