re: Second Amendment

BAGHDAD, IRAQ In a significant retreat from U.S. efforts to seize weapons held by Iraqi citizens, U.S. and British officials said Saturday that Iraqis would be allowed to keep AK-47 assault rifles in their homes and businesses.

There were many great replies to this article, and discussions of the Second Amendment, but it annoys me that no one stated what the Founding Fathers said: The Constitution does not GRANT rights to citizens, but are basic, pre-existing (God-given) rights that EVERY human has. Good for the Iraqi people for not being disarmed. This will help insure that the new government will be stable and that Iraq will not fall into chaos and civil war when we leave them to govern themseves. I must say, though, that I am very envious of them and wonder what our country would be like if we were allowed to excercise our God-given freedoms.

Welcome to FR. I think you will find many friends of the 2nd Amendment here.

A YUP... I am RKBA advocate... and you are correct there are many here... And the intial thrust of disarming the Iraq population was to get the heavy weapons like the maxim machine guns and the stockpiles of AK some groups had widdled down. right now they Iraqi's have more rights then we do... at least they can own an automatic weapon! :)

Good point! That is one thing I will give the Russia/soviet block... they knew/know how to mass produce a decent firearm.

There were some lookers in the group. Not using SVD/Dragonuva now, though. The sharpie-boys around Khankala are playing with these now. I expect the DOSSAF girlies are too, at least some select ones.

DOSSAF Does that still even exist? My sister in law (from Kirgistan) was in that. She's a darn good shot, and could field strip and reassemble an AK, blindfolded. She had never fired a handgun though until she married a Yankee Imperialist Running Dog. Now you don't want to tick her off too much. She actually looks a bit like the blond in the second two pictures of post 13.

There was a good article in American Rifleman a while back ago about Russian lady snipers in World War II.
