The lefties are so angry at Gonzales for argueing the position of the administration, that they fail to look at Gonzales's real record.

Michelle Malkin cites two stories on Gonzales. http://michellemalkin.com/archives/000840.htm

If you support affirmative discrimination, unimpeded trial lawyers, and abortions for minors, you will love Gonzales.

If personel is policy, then the Bush administration is tacking left.

Millions of Americans voted for Bush on social issues and to ensure that the Judiciary is run by people who believe in the Constitution. Between tacit support for Spector and the appointment of Gonzales, Bush has not waited untill all the votes are counted in the election before betraying his socially-conservative and Constitutionalist base.

We are stuck depending on Senate Republicans to break with the administration and defend the Constitution. We will soon see if any of the Senators hoping to run in 2008 are worth supporting.

We, the grassroots should give them, a push.

Attempt to mend the divisions magnified by the election?

I wonder what Santorum's gonna do. He's about the toughest we've got at this point, isn't he? Who are the front line conservatives? Most of our big names are fairly moderate. Help me out. Gimme 5 good solid conservative senators.

what an idiotic post. judge gonzales has been by the president's side for the last four years. he developed the legal strategy for the war on terror. he advised the president to seek a constitutional amendment to protect marriage. he has given the president a slew of conservative judicial nominees for the appellate courts. and he advised the president to sign the ban on partial birth abortion. what's not to like about that? he's clearly in the conservative mainstream, even if we don't like his position on one case about racial preferences. when are we going to learn -- you can't build a majority by imposing a 100 percent purity test on all appointees.

Is Gonzalez going to the Judiciary? Then what does all this fluff about 'invalidating' Texas law have to do with it? And he never invalidated a Texas law....... pure horse manure

'Democratic senators who last year blocked confirmation of Texas Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Owen as a federal appellate judge repeatedly cited Gonzales's attack on her minority opinion as an "unconscionable act of judicial activism."'

I'm glad he's strong aginst terrorism, but I wonder why he objected to her stand? From what I read, Owen would have made a great federal judge. Would that we had her as one now!!

Guess I need to read her opinion on this, and see why he objected.

From what I am hearing it is better for him to have the AG job. That gives the president the chance to nominate Miguel for the Supreme Court.

Leaky Leahy may just regret not giving him the vote in the senate.

aren't you the guy who called me names for criticizing Bush's Iraq policy? I guess it's ok to criticize him on other issues, though. (I actually agree with concerns about Specter and Gonzales. I hope this isn't a sell-out, but it doesn't look promising)

I agree 100% about Gonzales.

He might be great on the war on terror. But he has demonstrated he is willing to allow reverse discrimination to occur.

And all this talk about it being "safe" for him to be AG is short-sighted.

As AG he will determine the legal direction of the largest law firm in the country. Does the name Janet Reno ring any bells? The AG can do all sorts of legal damage to whatever group they decide to go after.

As AG he will advise the President and others in the executive branch. He's already advise the President to water down opposition to affirmative action in the U of Michigan case. He will surely do a lot more of this as AG.

He's also said the Constitution is a "living" document. ie: it can be modified through interpretation. Just like he "interpreted" the consent case in Texas.

And worse yet, this AG role is viewed by many as a warm up to putting him on the SCOTUS.

Now is the best time to hash out differences in the party. Some battles over isues like this can easily be patched up by the next round of elections.

If you are a true conservative, you should be against Gonzales being in any legal position in the Bush administration.
