Batman protects Gotham from the Joker; Superman defends Metropolis from Lex Luthor. Now a ragtag team of comic creators unite to save America from George W. Bush. Their superpower? Satire.
Writer Joshua Dysart (Violent Messiahs, Swamp Thing), artist Brad Rader (Catwoman) and publisher Mike Wellman (Mac Afro, Gone South) have joined forces to create Tex! George Bush and the Fine Art of Character Assassination, a 24-page satire of the Bush administration followed by a heavily researched, 5-page appendix that details the issues involved. The comic portrays Bush as an unflattering super hero and explores his policies and practices on various issues including civil liberties, the Florida election and the War on Terror.
The team says satire allows them to grab people's attention. "The comic itself is fun, outrageous and meant to be entertainment," Dysart emphasizes. "But we're hoping that the momentum of the story compels readers to spend some serious time reading the appendix. When the laughs are over, we hope the book rattles some out of their apathy about politics and spurs them to action."
Artist Brad Rader expanded on that point. "We represent everyday people," says Rader. "We're broke artists who are rising up with what we have on a very limited budget. Comic books are the perfect medium for this kind of expression. They're cheap, they're accessible, and they're not under corporate control."
"This is not a partisan attack," reminds Dysart. "We're not attacking Republicans. We are attacking this administration, which we feel has pulled the White House away from the ideals of both parties and the interests of the American people. In a democracy, we're all responsible for the actions of our leaders. And I'm sick of being responsible for this jerk."
"We encourage other artists and lay people alike to do what we're doing," says Wellman. "Everybody dissatisfied with Bush has got to use their skills, whatever they may be, to convince other people to vote him out."
The momentum of this project has already inspired other kinds of artists. Los Angeles- based funk/rock band Jacaranda recorded a 6-song companion CD to be handed out free with the book. "When I heard what they were doing, I knew we had to be a part of it." says Jacaranda lead singer Luis Reyes.
But not so silly that they might crease it and put it out of mint condition.
Hahaha! Indeed!
But comics has its share of conservative types. Steve Ditko, for example, was very influenced by Ayn Rand and fiercly opposed leftism.
The legendary Jim Steranko is an unapologetic conservative too, I think.
Most of the new breed is pretty liberal, and has been for 20+ years.
WORST. COMIC. EVER.
ROTFLMAO!!! :)
Looks like you boys need some civics lessons before the next issue
Dick Cheney looks like Dick Van Patten and Bush looks like Orson Beane.
Since these books are obviously not marketed at children, it is clear that the libs are now reading comic books. Yep, folks, the intellectuals talking down to us are reading stuff written at the grade-school level. Hillarious. One can't help but imagine some egghead who can't get a good lay laughing a high-pitched laugh over some stupid thing like this. This is their version of "humor", I guess. Whatever.
It is time for a new super hero! One that knows all! One that has a passport and is not stupid. A hero that can see into the future and know what we all want and how depressed we are when we don't get it!
LIB RULE MA...AH...PERSON
:)
