At one time, this place used to be a news forum. Now, everybody that wants to posts a vanity. Anyway, if I was too harsh, I'm sorry. G'night.

Besides, it's Saturday night and it ain't like we're overwhelmed with news and new articles. Give gb a break. Hell, I might even post my own vanity about spending a beautiful fall afternoon walking my golden retriever.

I'm assuming that you are too young to remember the late 1960s - early 1970s and have never been taught about those times, nor been motivated to find out about them on your own,so here's a very brief history of them

I'm plenty old enough to remember those times. I also hold a bachelors degree in political science with an emphasis in American government and political institutions, and am a 26 year veteran of the Air Force.

Thank you for your service.

With all due respect, just WHY is it,with ALL of that background, have YOU posted such a juvenile, seemingly ill educated thread?

---Contrary to DUmmie opinion, Bush doesn't even have a couple of million dollars and if they weren't so stupid, his tax records are public. Hes worth around 35 million. Kerry's wife is worth 600 million.---

I didn't write 'em, I just reported them. and "worth" is a highly elusive term when it comes to tuh-RAY-zuh, but I'm not going to quibble with you about $400 billion . . . it's chump change :o

gb, thank you for your service and wekcome to FR. If you've been lurking here any length of time you have seen that we have had an inordinate number of democrat trolls signing up the past few weeks and posting threads trying to disrupt things. So some FReepers are naturally gunshy. Then we have the Poster Police, most of whom mean well and are just trying to help with bandwidth use and space waste.

Of course, some of 'em are just plain old sanctimonious assholes.

Thank you for your service.

If you are the real deal and tough enough to continue posting, people will lighten up.

We have had a huge influx of trolls this week, so everyone is suspicious.

As for the DU posting, they crack me up. I have been tempted to post a few myself the past few days, but I am too skeeeerred! LOL

Juvenille and ill-educated in what way? It was a slightly sarcastic way to say that thanks to FR, I discovered an extremely dark underbelly to the far left that I knew was out there but had never before experienced in their own words.

Juvenile and ill educated,as in your post sounded like one written by a 15,maybe 20 year old, whose knowledge of even recent history is abjectly lacking.Sorry, but that's exactly how your tinfoil message about a lefty uprising sounded.

When you mean something sarcastically, always use th FR preferred (/sarcasm) at the end of the sentence/s or reply.

If you just wanted to thank FR...add such a message to an extant thread;GOD knows there are plenty of threads about the election and DU,to chose from! And FWIW...even the best of vanities, which your's most assuredly is not,are usually frowned on here.

The letters to the editor of the N.Y. Post and many other news papers, from cretinous Liberals, since the election, have been as dreadful as the lunatic postings to FR! Any newspaper reader didn't need FR to know how depressed, psychotic, and deranged these crazies are.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am tough enough and can easily hold my own in any debate. But quite frankly I've got better ways to spend my time than agonizing over and defending every post that someone else thinks doesn't rise to the appropriate level of erudition

My first impression that FR was a place for civil discourse between like-minded people was obviously mistaken. The cranky snobs can have my bandwidth back. I don't need it or want it.

Like all places in the world there are all kinds of people.
It is just impossible for everyone to be happy. No one thinks exactly the same. Some have been hurt by being nice to someone who honestly did turn out to be a troll. I am not one to go after new people without real proof. We were all new once. If you ever saw a post that begins with "ZOT" then that is person who admits that they are trying to disrupt. We all have to deal with each others differences and there are many differences between posters here. I have my problems with a few. At the same time there does have to be limits. Imagine if people from DU were posting there vile stuff here. This place would have the same chaos they have there. Nothing can get done...nothing can be learned... with that. They filter out the conservatives and the Republicans in a much worse way. They are far less tolerant. I was actually surprised to see that a far number of replies to you were supportive and understanding. You have to be a little tuff and take the rest. Respect is earned. If you take the time to earn it then you find more of it given in return. If you give up this easy then what can you accomplish? And to take a quote from a really cool movie. "That's life. What can I tell you."

Welcome to FreeRepublic. I hope you think about staying.

Prior to last week, I didn't know FR or DU existed. My older brother in Florida sent me a link, (he knows I'm an opinionated little hussy) and I started lurking here and there. I admit, the first time I was over there, I was shocked at the hate oozing from those people. The arrogance in their belief that we peons are too stupid to think for ourselves made me angry. However, I don't recall reading anything that said we must be invited to, or "pay our dues" to post here. Common courtesy and manners go a long way in my book. Not all "newbies" are trolls. Have some faith!

I'm new too (only been around a few months), but I'm scared as hell to post anything because I see "newbies" getting jumped on all the time. I must admit that I've looked at DU (haven't we all) and I'd love to talk about some of the unbelievable crap that comes from that site. They are so nasty to each other and I don't want to see stuff like that at FreeRepublic. I think we can talk to each other and disagree with each other in a much more civil way than those imbeciles at DU.

I guess I'm just asking politely that you give us new guys a break. After all, we want to encourage people to join the conservative movement, not scare the crap out of them!

I am not one who gives newbies a hard time unless there is no chance that they are legit. But some people do. Many others don't. We all have to live with it is all. And of course I fully recomend that great care be taken by newer posters in what they post. Mainly be careful that you don't trash the "Icons" of the forum(ie the forum, those who manage it, Bush Republicans, conservatives) that sort of thing. When you are new it sends up a red flag. OH and avoid vanitys(article posts). Too many people here hate them. Hope that helps.

Welcome to FR :)

When FR was new, most newbies ( not the original members, most of whom had known each other on another site/s) refrained from even replying, for at least a month;most for far longer. I lurked for almost a year, before I joined and even then, didn't reply all that much....forget about posting a thread of ANY kind.

By just reading threads,we got to understand how FR works, which posters we agreed with, which ones we didn't,who knew their stuff and who didn't. We learned the ways of FR,the inside slang/words/phrases/jokes,and were prepared, when we finally got up the nerve to actually post something.

The owner of this site has repeatedly, over the past several years, with the massive increase of newbies, posted thread after thread after thread about 1) DO NOT POST VANITIES! 2)and all the rest of the rules here.

Frankly,FR is NOT some finishing school...it is a rough and tumble place where you had better be able to substantiate your facts (you really better have FACTS,BTW..."feelings"/uneducated opinions count for less than nothing here!),know how to debate, when needed, and if you have a thin skin, this is NOT a place to be.And what some see as arrogance or incivility, others see as knowledge...unless shown by some cretinous know-it-all,who know NOTHING,but are just blowhards.

And not to put too fine a point on it,yes,FREEPERS have ALWAYS given newbies a hard time,at first,to see if they can hack it here. This site has had trolls and disruptors from the beginning! One had to be sued,in court,in real life,to get rid of.Another used to hack into this site so badly, that he took it down repeatedly.

FreeRepublic is primarily a NEWS and INFORMATION forum, where articles and editorials are discussed and debated. This is NOT some chat room, though it has lately been expanded to include such a forum within this forum. The old timers have literally been through the wars here and the latest influx of newbies, who think that everyone is just waiting with bated breath, for their latest vanity, more often than not posted to News/activism,have become worse than an "ASH ALERT" (go look that up in FR's archives)once was.

Helpful hint...........DON'T EVER LECTURE US HOW TO BEHAVE,NOR TELL US WHAT TO DO;YOU HAVEN'T THE RIGHT...ONLY THE OWNER AND THE MODS DO!

Welcome to FR. :-)

FreeRepublic has plenty of jerks to fill in the gaps between the decent people.

(Also, although someone will almost always know something about something, this place is increasingly filled with inaccurate posts/comments. Fact check anything you read here, just like anywhere else on the net)
