Personally I think everyone has a right to their own beliefs. At least Alan Colmes is an honest man... all be it liberal. I will never forget when GWB won in 2000, he reached over and shook Hanity's hand and congratulated him on the victory. Alan is a classy guy and I don't beleive in calling him names just because he believes what he believes.
I don't think Colmes believes what he says sometimes - you see him force words out of his mouth because he has to say something.
Colmes is the least obnoxious of the liberal talking heads and I do think he and Hannity have a good rapport.
At least Alan, like him or not, doesn't change his stance from day to day. He sticks with what he believes and I respect him for that. However I do tend to tune him out a lot.
He also said GWB was his president, not like a bunch of them other flaming libs who said he wasn't their president.
I agree - Alan is one of those rare liberals who is a gentleman! I have communicated with him before and he does have a even rarer traits (for a liberal) of humblness.
This is how he described himself in the Lumino article: "I don't pretend that I'm delivering the straight news. I'm not a newsman. I'm an opinion-giver," Colmes says. "And what I need to is be honest about giving my opinion and evaluating events based on the prism to which I look at life. I'm not Dan Rather.
My job is not to be an objective-neutral person, but I am hired because I do have a point of view and my role and my need is to be honest about that as possible."
About Sean and himself, he said:
"We are both very committed to our beliefs, but you know it's never personal," he says. "We've never crossed that line where it's become a personal thing between him and me."
"I've always felt that you can agree to disagree, and disagree without being disagreeable" he says. "And that if you really want to be heard, you don't hit people over the head and do it in a mean-spirited way. If you really want your voice be heard, you want to express your self in a way that's palatable even to those on the other side."
And that is what I think makes him classy compared to the likes of Donahue, Chris Matthews, Ron Reagan and Geraldine Ferraro!!
