Thank you. I didn't post it, hoping that this would be an -- ahem -- self-correcting error, but obviously it was not.

"and I don't know for sure what our alliance is based on in Jordan - it that oil also ..??"

Mo Jordan is mostly just desert (transjordan). It is where supposedy Ishmael setteled in after Abraham gave him the foot. Jordan as far as I understand does not have much in the way of established mineral resources etc.. They just have been going along for the ride with most mid-eastern countries for a long time. That is, just surviving for the masses. With a fair president that does seem to want more for his people, they have lived in peace with the Israelis,Syrians, and Saudi Arabia, and Iraq for the most part. Put another way, they don't make waves.

"Despite it's bloviating, the Saudis have more to lose if we leave, because our money helps prop up that regime. It's a relationship built on purely on mutual interests, not friendship -- we use their oil and make sure al-Qaeda takes over Riyadh, and they get to save their pathetic little Kingdom.."

How accurate you are in this repect. I wonder how many of us realize how vast amounts of money we payed during the 1970 through 1980's for oil from Saudi Arabia was in turn used by them to buy our weapon systems, a truly modernized airforce, and fully operational military grid system for information exchange, et cetera. Much of the monies we bought oil with ended up going back into American companies and there fore into American pockets for those that worked in Electronics/Computers/Industrial/Buiilding, and Aero Space type industries.

A win win situation. Food for thought, though it is not the mainstay of this article, just wanted to make this point.
