First off, I am certain I heard the news radio (a CNN affiliate) report the Thursday date.

Out of curiosity, I just looked at the CNN website.

From yesterday, 10/11, at 9:18 AM EDT.

Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday while at his home in Pound Ridge, New York, then fell into a coma and died Sunday at a hospital surrounded by his family.

Four hours later, there’s a subtle change:
"Reeve went into cardiac arrest Saturday at his home in Westchester County, New York, after developing a serious systemic infection during treatment for a pressure wound. He slipped into a coma and died Sunday afternoon at a hospital near his home."

From the first story, it looks like he slipped into a coma on Saturday. But in the later version, the time of the coma is uncertain.

In any case, even if he didn't fall into a coma until Saturday, it’s really unlikely Reeve called Kerry, given brief window of time between the debate and his death and given the seriousness of his condition.

A thread here that ran last night. He fell into coma on Saturday night after having a heart attack. That speaks of something that came on quickly.
