Christopher Hitchens on Uncommon Knowledge

Posted on 10/11/2004 8:40:59 AM PDT by desherwood7

I was watching Mr.Hitchens on the abovementioned program, And the last comment made was stunning. He said the all that was left of the American Left was the Michael Moore fringe. I believe it's refreshing that Mr. Hitchens has confirmed all that we have believed for some time now.

He would know, that's for sure.

The dim left certainly has been intellectually frightening this year. I can even forgive their misplaced devotion to Michael Moore's Farenheit 911, my impression is that the fat pig can actually make a pretty watchable and amusing movie. Not that I'll ever see one, mind you, but that is my impression from what I've read and been told by those who've seen his flicks. But the idea that "The Day After Tomorrow" was in any way a serious film, or could be considered to have ANY real contribution to make to political dialogue was just disturbing.

I really like Christopher Hitchens. His writing style is the best I have seen in a very long while. He is just as elegant when being interviewed in person. I have only "discovered" Mr. Hitchens since 9/11. Before that, I lumped him in with all the other "lefties" in the media. But his brutal honesty about the evils of the left, combined with his absolute zeal for the defeat and annihilation of the jihadists really turned my head. While I sit here in my pajamas taking pot-shots at the left, Mr. Hitchens unloads on them with 105 mm Howitzers. I wish I knew how to think like him.

Not too long ago, Mr. Hitchens produced a one hour documentary on my home state called Texas-America Supersized, which was shown on the Trio cable channel. It was extremely well done and *shock* fair. He immersed himself in Texas culture, bought a pair of cowboy boots, and shouted obscenities at a high school football coach. What a guy.

I have also seen Mr. Hitchens participate in several debates that were broadcast on C-SPAN. He has the uncanny ability to both intellectually tear his opponents down, while still being able to deliver school yard taunts and insults.

Did Michael Moore say that "The Day after Tomorrow" was a real movie?

Yup. It was very well done. Even though he spotlighted some Texas stereotypes, he did explain the documentary that they were exception and not the rule. He put his finger on the pulse of Texas. Texas is a very competitive, self-dependent, and conservative state. The Democrats are now a very minor party in the state. They have no chance of regaining power for decades to come. Hitchens did a good job explaining that. He also showed Molly Ivins to be the wacko she is in real life. I have met her, and she is a disgusting human being.
