Edwards Couldn’t be CEO of Halliburton, Let Alone President.

“Hi, I’m John Edwards. Are you poor or out of work, but own a Playstation? Are you afraid of white men in business suits? Scared of corporations? Do you believe Halliburton causes terrorism, AIDS, and vapor lock? Do you think France is more important than Great Britain, Poland, and Japan put together? If so, call 1-800-LIB-ERAL. If you have a phone, you have a lawyer, I mean liberal. No, wait! I mean Vice-President. Can we try this again?”

The Vice-Presidential debates proved conclusively that the Democratic Party is little more than shallow platitudes that appeal superficially to the contradictory interest groups that form the party’s base. After the first twenty minutes, when Cheney dug into Edwards responses and countered his more inane attacks, he demonstrated that Edwards had no depth.

But what was acutely revealed was the sophistry of Edwards arguments. Edwards suggested that Cheney’s “long resume does not equal good judgment.” Most viewers probably let this drift over their minds. Edwards said it as if it is a commonly understood truism, a folksy rule of thumb. But not only is it nonsense, it is the opposite of what is true.

In fact, a long resume like that of Cheney’s is evidence of good judgment. If his judgment was poor, would he have been elected to Congress, appointed President Ford’s Chief of Staff, President H. W. Bush’s Secretary of Defense during a war, hired as CEO of Halliburton, and chosen by President Bush as his running mate?

And note that Edwards never really demonstrated that Cheney has a track record for bad judgment. At most, he suggested that Iraq is a single episode of bad judgment. He kept talking about how the first Gulf War cost only a few billion dollars (which is patently false), but he didn’t mention that Cheney managed the fighting of that war. The fact is that Edwards has no track record of judgment at all, and John Kerry’s record is atrocious. That’s why Edwards never discussed it....More

This article has some more good stuff, but Cheney is the master and it's too bad he won't run for pres in 2008.

The only thing plaintiffs' lawyers are good for is destroying things.
