Workers Say Men Videotaped Transmission Co. Headquarters
FBI, Oak Creek Police Continue To Investigate Collapsed Towers

POSTED: 5:18 pm CDT October 14, 2004

Police in Pewaukee are searching for answers about four men reportedly seen videotaping the headquarters of the American Transmission Co.

As WISN 12 News exclusively reported Wednesday night, workers said they spotted the men shortly after two transmission towers collapsed in Oak Creek Saturday.

That sighting led to near panic inside a nearby We Energies call center in the city of Pewaukee, which was on lockdown because of the tower collapse.

"We all stayed and stood our ground. And, ah, we thought we were, we may not make it out of there alive," the worker said.

The witnesses said they saw three or four men they described as Middle Eastern looking videotaping the building and the surrounding area.

"One would hope that if these people were out there for something legitimate, that they come forward and help put this to rest. But I don't know if it's correlated to what occurred in Oak Creek," City of Pewaukee Police Department Chief Gary Bach said.

Police sent several officers and a canine unit to the area where the men were last seen, but found nothing.

The police reports were forwarded to the FBI, Oak Creek police and the Department of Homeland Security.

Meanwhile, the on-site investigation in Oak Creek has wrapped up.

Oak Creek Police Chief Tom Bauer said they and the FBI collected 250 pieces of potential evidence, and they've received many tips from the public, which are being investigated.

Both Bauer and the FBI said thus far, they're not aware of any connection between the tower collapse and the suspicious men in the city of Pewaukee.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the FBI at (414) 291-4322.

FBI probes possible bullet holes on US Airways jet

WKMG Local 6

ORLANDO, Fla. - The FBI is investigating several suspicious holes that appear to be bullet holes found on a US Airways plane after it landed at Orlando International Airport, FLORIDA TODAY news partner WKMG Local 6 News has learned.

According to a police report obtained exclusively by Local 6 News, an Orlando baggage handler discovered the holes before unloading luggage form the Airbus aircraft earlier this week.

The flight being investigated originated in San Francisco and had a stop in Charlotte, N.C., before landing in Orlando, according to the report.

The Orlando Airport Authority and the FBI confirm knowledge of the suspicious incident.

The FBI said they were "notified by airline officials and the Orlando Police Department that they have reason to believe these are what looked like bullet holes" on the rear section of the plane's body, Local 6 News reported.

An FBI spokeswoman said based on the agency's investigation, "We know it didn't happen in Orlando and we need to determine if they are even bullet hole."

Sources told Local 6 News that the FBI is in Charlotte today tearing apart the plane to learn more about the suspicious holes, Local 6 News reported.

No passengers were injured on the flight .

US Airways would not comment on the incident.

Small Plane Crashes in Mo., Killing Two

DAVID A. LIEB

Associated Press

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A small jet crashed in a residential area here, killing the only two people aboard, airline officials said Friday.

The crash Thursday of the Pinnacle Airlines plane appeared to destroy a garage and set a home on fire, but there were no reports of injuries on the ground, police and fire officials said.

The CRJ2, which seats up to 50 people, was traveling from Little Rock, Ark., to Minneapolis when the pilots for the regional airline reported trouble with both engines.

Witnesses reported seeing fire shortly before the plane went down a few miles east of downtown Jefferson City, police Capt. Michael Smith said.

The only people on board were the two pilots, identified as Capt. Jesse Rhodes and First Officer Peter Cesarz. National Transportation Safety Board member Carol Carmody said the bodies had not been recovered, but by looking at the cockpit there's "no doubt" the pilots died.

Lesley Ammikus was sitting on the deck of her apartment as the plane approached her neighborhood.

"I saw it right at the trees. I thought, 'That's way too loud and too low,' and it just hit," Ammikus said. "It went boom when it hit."

A wing and a large chunk of the plane's charred, twisted tail rested between two houses. An engine was found along the road, Smith said. "You could still smell the fuel," he said.

The plane's flight data recorder was recovered, and the NTSB was investigating.

Memphis-based Pinnacle is affiliated with Northwest Airlines, operating under the name Northwest Airlink.

"I am greatly saddened by the loss of our crew," Pinnacle Chief Executive Philip Trenary said. "My prayers and the prayers of all Pinnacle people are with their family and loved ones."

The plane, bought new by Pinnacle in May 2000, had no major problems in inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration, Pinnacle said.

The accident came hours after another small plane crashed 300 miles away near townhouses in Joliet, Ill., killing the pilot. That plane crashed while trying to land at Joliet Regional Airport shortly after taking off from there, Joliet officer Chris Gombosi said.

Mary Saunders was in her car when she saw the pilot was in trouble. "He absolutely had no control," she said.

Kerry Taking Campaign Contributions From Pro-Iranian Group

By Jeff Gannon
Talon News
October 15, 2004

The chairman of a pro-Iranian democracy group is charging that the campaign of Sen. John Kerry has been accepting political contributions from a lobbying group promoting the agenda of the mullah rulers of Iran. Aryo Pirouznia, leader of the Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy in Iraq (SMCCDI) says that backers of the regime in Tehran are channeling hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Kerry campaign.

During a press conference in Washington on Thursday, Pirouznia identified several individuals who have close ties to the Democratic presidential candidate. The most prominent of them is Hassan Nemazee, a New York investment banker and a member of the board of the American-Iranian Council (AIC). A chief goal of the lobbying group is the removal of U.S. sanctions against Iran.

Kerry and the Ayatollahs (Kerry's letter to Iran, blaming the US) (REPOST/REMINDER)
Washington Times ^ | Feb. 29, 2004 | WT

Posted on 10/09/2004 8:50:22 PM CDT by FairOpinion

On Feb. 8, the Tehran Times published a letter that Mr. Kerry's office sent to an Iranian news agency explaining why he should be elected president. The letter suggests that the Bush administration's objectionable behavior toward other nations is to blame for many of the world's problems. "Sadly, we are also painfully aware of how the actions and attitudes demonstrated by the U.S. government over the past three years have threatened the goodwill earned by presidents of both parties over many decades and put many of our international relationships at risk," the Kerry letter says.

Ever since the Iranian Revolution occurred during Jimmy Carter's presidency a quarter-century ago, Tehran has been hostile to the United States and one of the world's leading supporters of terrorism — providing funding, weapons, training and safe haven to groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and even al Qaeda. But Mr. Kerry seems to believe that the crux of the problem isn't Iran's despotic, violent rulers, but President Bush's behavior toward them.

Hotel clue points to an Iraqi connection
Tom Walker

A CHANCE encounter in a Baghdad hotel may have provided a clue for investigators trying to establish whether Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator, was in contact with Osama Bin Laden in the months before the suicide bomb attacks on American embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam three years ago.

Giovanni Di Stefano, a controversial lawyer who was the business partner of the late Serbian warlord Arkan, has described how he met Bin Laden -now the world's most wanted man but then a relatively unknown figure -in the lobby of the five-star Al-Rashid hotel while negotiating a contract to represent Iraqi Airlines in Yugoslavia and Italy.

If true, his account could strengthen the view of Washington hawks that Iraq had a hand in the embassy bombings and the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and that Saddam's regime should be targeted for retaliation.

However, Di Stefano's claim has divided intelligence sources and academics: some say Bin Laden was plotting strikes against American targets with Saddam, while others insist he would not have been welcome in Iraq.

Di Stefano said that in March 1998 -five months before the embassy bombings - he entered the state-run hotel with Tariq Aziz, the Iraqi foreign minister, and was sitting in the lobby with a business associate.

Richard Butler, the chief United Nations weapons inspector, had just walked past when they overheard someone sitting nearby say: "That is a man who brings death to this country."

Di Stefano said he looked over and saw a slightly built man sipping Evian water. "I said we also had our victims to cry over in Yugoslavia," Di Stefano recalled. "He walked over, and I remember his piercing eyes and handshake. His skin was gentle and soft, like a woman's hand."

The two men made polite conversation, and the stranger introduced himself as Osama Bin Laden, a name that meant nothing to Di Stefano at the time. "He seemed kind: he talked about a family feast for his children and asked me about law," Di Stefano said. "He seemed a gentle man, although his eye movements were a little strange."

It was only on his return to Belgrade in late March that Di Stefano realised whose hand he had fleetingly grasped. "Arkan told me I should have killed him," he said.

Laurie Mylroie, the author of Study of Revenge: Saddam Hussein's Unfinished War against America, which highlights a series of links with Bin Laden, said the lawyer's story was plausible. "Bin Laden's not capable of doing this stuff without foreign intelligence, and that comes from Iraq. He can't do it wasting away in the Hindu Kush," she said. "It all fits in. It's circumstantial, but there are strong grounds to believe the plot was already under way."

Although hawks in the Bush administration suspect that Iraq was involved in the jet attacks, Colin Powell, the secretary of state, has resisted calls for air strikes against Baghdad.

"The Americans have only ever hinted at Iraq giving material support for Bin Laden, but they have never produced the evidence," said Professor Paul Wilkinson, of the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at St Andrews University.

"It's quite possible Bin Laden was in Iraq. There are differences between them but that doesn't mean you can exclude contact when they both hate America so much."

Peter Bergen, whose biography of Bin Laden is to be published shortly, said Di Stefano's supposed sighting failed "every common sense test". He believes ideological conflicts between Bin Laden and Saddam would prevent them conspiring together.

The relationship between Butler, who arrived in Baghdad on March 22 1998, and the Iraqi regime deteriorated.

The Iraqis repeatedly denounced America, although they have always denied any links to Bin Laden.

On August 4 Butler cut short a visit to Baghdad, and three days later explosions at the American embassies in the Kenyan and Tanzanian cities claimed 224 lives. Bin Laden has been indicted by Washington for the attacks.

Di Stefano has maintained his contacts with Saddam's regime, but says has no idea why Bin Laden should have been in the Al-Rashid in 1998. "I don't know and I won't speculate," he said.
