Fact Checking the Boston Globe - in Advance The blogosphere is abuzz that there might be an authoritative expert by the name of David E. Hailey, Jr., Ph.D. who might have proven the CBS documents are legit.
The Boston Globe is so excited they are getting ready to run with it.
I hope they do. Dr. Hailey is a liar, a fraud and a charlatan.
And I have the goods.
He attempted to copy Charles' work of reproducing the document on a typewriter. Supposedly, the top line is the CBS memo and the bottom line a 1970's era typewriter. But there was a problem...

Haley is simply demonstrating that the famous memos could be created using a typewriter. At no point does he assert that the questioned memos are genuine.
I think he did state that CBS was correct in assumming the memos were real.
CONCLUSIONS
Since current odds hold that the Bush memos are faked, the question of their authenticity turns to whether CBS should have known they were inauthentic if, in fact, they are. In fact, there seems to be nothing in the memos that indicates they are faked. All evidence points toward a mechanical production process and away from a digital process.
Furthermore, the mechanical process seems to be consistent with typewriters used in the military at the time in question.
If I had been one of the experts advising CBS, I would have advised them that there is nothing physical in the memos implying they are not authentic. All indicators imply they are authentic. I would have told them that from my point of view, the memos are worthy of presenting to the public.
All indicators imply they are authentic.
Well, he certainly comes pretty close to saying so.
It has already been noted that Hailey's so-called demonstration lacks something important: a typewriter.
This is great ! - This BOZO actually forged the "th" in his own PDF file !
Not even that. He's using a downloadable computer font called "Typewriter."
whoops!
But what he is actually demonstrating that the memos could be created using a typewriter and photoshop

Good Catch!
This guy needs to return his PhD.
Only a buffoon would say what he asserting after all the evidence that has been presented.
First of all, when creating a thread, make sure to use the same title as the originating story---it helps search for dupes.
Secondly, the latest thinking is this is NOT a forgery. The professor is quite clear about how he constructed his version of the memo.
His methods are fatally flawed but he is not misrepresenting himself.
Right, and he said something to the effect that CBS was correct in using the memos.
But he never addressed that the signitures do not match with the Col's.
Oh really!
Did the inept doctor consider that "IAW AFM 35-13" cited in two of the documents as the governing authority for Bush's yearly flight physical might be erroneous?
For one thing, Air Force Manuals (AFMs) are used as guidelines that have no regulatory authority. No knowledgeable Air Force member would use In Accordance With (IAW) a manual, only IAW Air Force Regulations or IAW Air Force Instructions.
And another thing, AFM 35-13 has nothing to do with yearly flight physicals.
See here: No one takes a physical exam, flight or not, IAW a manual....
Strictly speaking, yes. It seems that's what he's demonstrating.
