CBS News seems to suddenly be offering up an awful lot of derogatory, incriminating information about producer Mary Mapes, who was formerly called a 'well respected journalist' with an 'unblemished reputaion.'
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Mapes arranged for Burkett to talk to a top aide to Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
Standard journalistic practices forbid journalists from doing anything that could be perceived as helping a politcal campaign.
CBS News hopes to name an independent panel today that will investigate how Bill Burkett, a Texas Democratic operative and opponent of President Bush, decieved 60 Minutes in its now retracted story about Bush's military record.
'Its clear that something went seriously wrong with the process,' CBS President Les Moonves said.
He called the review both 'necessary and important.'
I dont want to say that they are setting up Mary Mapes as a patsy, but my sources just informed me that CBS is planning to move her through an undergound parking lot in Dallas, and they plan to have fat guys milling around in cowboys hats when they do so.

You convinced me, I hope she talkes her head off.
Or we are still wading through the list of the guilty..
I was going to add, small planes, Arkansas, and Ft. Marcy Park to the list!
I bet she will go to the papers if fired, even the Kerry folks cant keep her under wraps!
Reminds me of the old saying about RATS on a sinking ship.
Yep, she had better watch it, I understand Rather is going around singing "I love a Parade"
So Solly, I don't get that reference, unless you mean JFK's final motorcade...
Mary Mapes is just another example of how elites consider the American public morons. We are to stupid to figure anything out. So....It's o.k. to lie, cheat and steal to get Kerry elected....I would vote for a chimp on roller skates before John Kerry...
Sorry, Told my age, it was a common joke that it was LBJ's favorite song after the motorcade.
