Why do TV commentators on CBS' forgery-gate insist on issuing lengthy caveats to the effect that of course this was an innocent mistake and no one is accusing Dan Rather of some sort of "conspiracy," and respected newsman Dan Rather would never intentionally foist phony National Guard documents on an unsuspecting public merely to smear George Bush, etc., etc.?
I'll admit, there's a certain sadistic quality to such overwrought decency toward Dan Rather. But how does Bill O'Reilly know what Dan Rather was thinking when he put forged documents on the air? I know liberals have the paranormal ability to detect racism and sexism, but who knew O'Reilly could read an anchorman's mind just by watching him read the news?
What are the odds that Dan Rather would have accepted such patently phony documents from, say, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth?

Bill O'Rielly must be sipping the Kool-Aid, his recent lapses in logic are really apparent so he needed to be trashed and she did it. Bill seemed dazed and confused during the interview.
However, you could get a job at CBS.

Compare and contrast: Helen Thomas, MoDo, Eleanor Clift, Molly Ivins, Julienne Malveaux, Susan Estridge, Katie Couric etc.
There is probably more, but the self defense mechanisms in my brain prevent me from visualizing them!
Well, someone on her show this morning, who didn't sound like she was on the phone...in fact, she sounded a lot like Laura (because it WAS Laura), said that she wanted to "give a 'shout-out' to Free Republic."
(Brief aside: a shout-out is a metafer, or slang for hello, compliment. To paraphrase Zell Miller, "you do know what a 'metafer' is, don't you?") Not just "the Internet", not just "bloggers", but she mentioned Free Republic by name.
Of course, in keeping with liberal theology, I guess that would have to depend on what the meaning of "never" is...

Sounds like a lot of CBS to me.
I remember it well. Bush reminded Rather of how he had walked off the evening news set in the mistaken belief that the network was down and someone needed a rocket from Rather, leaving the the viewers looking at an empty chair for about 5 minutes. I remember how outraged he seemed at the idea that a mere president would have the temerity to question HIS actions. He just sat there saying "Answer the question please... Answer the question please", while Bush senior grinned at him. It was beautiful.

If you listen a lot, and dont hear it, it is safe to say it aint CBS
