Lost amidst conservatives' cheers and whistles over their discovery that forged documents were very likely used by Dan Rather and the pro-Kerry CBS Fifth Column to smear George W. Bush over his irrelevant Vietnam era guard service, is an important and sobering point: Kerrys highly relevant and disgraceful behavior from the same period is no longer on center stage.

There are still a few weeks left to talk about that.
1. Navy Investigation pending into Kerry's paperwork
2. Swift Boat Vets still have Paris to mention
3. Form 180 signed by Bush, not signed by Kerry
No worries. It'll swing back his way with even more momentum. Watch.
The Cambodia lie needs to be hammered hard, too. But no one in the media will touch it.
Does all this help Lurch's numbers or give the public a reason to vote for him? It helps him..not.
Negative campaigns work when the negative information makes undecideds and committed voters say, "ugh, I can't vote for Bush now that I know this!"
The problem is that explosed dirty politics, if the main stream media admits that the information was an attempt to manipulate public opinion, will backfire and cause more undecideds to vote for Bush and many Kerry supporters to vote for Nader. If Rather were to admit he was fooled by the DNC and its operatives, he Dan Rather would contribute to a Republican landslide in November. Rather will hold on to the very end to avoid admitting the now obvious truth and try with all his heart to prevent a backlash that sweeps Republicans into office.
What I find really interesting is that the retoric is now being ratcheted up. At first CBS News was doing an internal investigation Now CBS News is saying that they are sure of the information and stake the reputation of the entire "CBS network" on the authenticity of the story.
Will the reputation of GE next be put at stake, just to prevent the obvious admission? I am not sure, but some heads are likely to roll at CBS News and CBS Corporate over this story, unless the DNC figures out a way to make the story become at least believable pretty soon.
Once we had Kerry rocked back on his heels, we should never have let up.
I still think we can fight a two-front war (against a common enemy), but we must keep our priorities straight. Drawing blood on Rather does not necessarily translate into drawing blood on Kerry.
What would please me most is to see a poll or two where Bush's numbers bump up in the wake of Rathergate.
I sincerely hope you are right, and I am wrong.

Compare this Democrat.com Doc with the CBS Fakes
Nice blog.
Some breather.
Let's see, forged documents were given to the DNC, then passed on to your campaign. You looked at them, couldn't see they were obvious fakes, and then gave them to your pals at CBS News.
Then a 60 Minutes story airs showcasing these false documents along with allegations stated by a guy who happens to be one of your major campaign players who states he helped your opponent get into the TANG - despite the fact he swore under oath a few years ago that he didn't.
Within days:
1. The Blogosphere once again leads the way in demonstrating the docs are fake...
2. The close ties to your campaign of the 'Bush family Friend' who supposedly helped GWB get into the TANG are all over the internet
3. The SwiftVets are still out there and have not even brought up your visit to Paris yet - you kept waiting for the story of the SBVT to die but thanks to the blogs and FOX news it didn't.
4. After getting advice from every famous Dem on the planet to stop talking about 30 year old stuff and focus on the issues of today, your campaign has just been exposed handing off forged documents to the media that smear your opponent based on............30 year old allegations.
If this is a breather, Kerry will be deep in a coma by Nov. 2.
